When Men Were Men and Presidents Were Presidents

On this day in 1912, Teddy Roosevelt was shot in the chest. Immediately afterwards, he continued on and gave a campaign speech.

I know that many conservatives do not like Roosevelt, but I have several of his books, and if I don't agree with all of his politics, I can certainly respect the man. The campaign incident also reminds me of the "day in the life" stuff I have read in biographies of trappers and explorers from the early 1800s. Those guys could lose a leg, cauterize the wound themselves, and carry on the same day as if they just put a band aid on a minor cut. Makes me feel inadequate.

Also, on the political tangent, the article mentions that asshat Woodrow Wilson only garnered 42% of the popular vote, but won the electoral vote in 40 states. Where were all the whiny "racist electoral system" people back then?

That's the way they told it, anyhow.

(Yes, there was a real-life incident recently where a guy had to cut off his own trapped arm out in the boonies.)

The point being you never hear of the ones who didn't "make it back."
WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

I have 3 or 4 books about and by TR. He definitely was a tough nut.  I didn't find much about him to disagree with.  He wasn't perfect, just a determined man.
My great uncle was in an artillery unit sent to Cuba in support of TR and his Rough Riders.

When Michigan began to set up a game warden system, several of his Rough Riders were recommended byTR to be part of that.

Whining about racism doesn't help when Woody's screening Birth of a Nation in the White House.
