New monitor(s) goodness
« on: September 19, 2023, 11:36:04 AM »
In 2019 I got a triple 27" display setup for my work desktop. It was okay, much more useful than the two smaller displays previously. Unfortunately, the IT guy who spec'd them was the kind who would search by one or two primary specs, sort by price, and buy the cheapest one regardless of overall performance. You've probably met the kind, they think frugal and cheap are synonymous but all they're really doing is ensuring the highest available PITA per dollar ratio.

In my case it meant that, yes, I had three 27" 1080p monitors, but they were dim, poorly resolved, flickery, and generally hard on eyes. I compensated somewhat with settings but they still sucked, there's only so much you can do withing the hardware's inherent limits. The new IT guy is much more appreciative of good optical performance. End result is I now have a trio of Dell UltraSharps. Lower-tier UltraSharps, sure, but still in the category. Clear, bright, and sharp with good contrast and ample refresh rate. In use the difference is night and day. Still have minor eye strain computer-heavy days, but it's nothing compared to the almost-everyday eye discomfort and nagging headaches before.

Yeah, good monitors are worth it.

Nice.

We have Lenovo monitors on our desks at work and they're not bad at all.

Count your blessings.  My 20" monitor at home is OK except for one thing.
Every time I turn it on, I have to see the maker's name flash on the screen and it's a name I detest - AOC.

I got a pair of ultrasharps when I moved into my new position…I’m sure spec’d by my boss as opposed to our IT department (which after giving me $$$ monitors and a hub gave me a $20 wired keyboard instead of a $20 wireless keyboard set🙄)

Great monitors. I need to get one for the house for my home office days.

Whoops, I've got LG monitors, not Lenovos.

I THINK they are 24s. I have two of them on my desk.

Nice picture.

My keyboard and mouse are both wired. They have to be. Can't have any wireless stuff like that in the secured facility where I work.
