Ford SYNC 3, infotainment partially resets at random
« on: September 28, 2023, 05:32:11 PM »
If you have a Ford product with the SYNC infotainment system and it's suddenly started asking you for daily confirmations of Automatic Updates and Diagnostics, possibly also randomly changing the number of radio preset button pages back to default, read on.

I had this problem start a couple weeks ago. Turns out it's common. Very common, in fact. Something to do with a hosed up build of SYNC. Seems most prevalent on SYNC 3.

Take it to a dealer and you'll get the universal "you need a new SYNC module". Actual fix seems to be a simple SYNC update. SYNC is supposed to update incrementally if connected to wifi. A lot don't for some reason, at least not regularly or well. Mine was one. The last update, which happened only a couple months ago, was two full builds behind. Plus, it takes friggin forever, like many hours and your vehicle has to be running the entire time. I went to the Ford SYNC page, searched my VIN, and found that an update was available (see link below). Downloaded it to a USB drive and installed manually. Reasonably straightforward and total time was about an hour (vehicle still has to be running, but 30-40 minutes versus four or five hours, so...).
