Watch sound: shouting.  Otherwise safe for work.

Getting caught in that debris flow is probably more dangerous than the water itself.

Yep

This also shows why you don't pitch your tent in a dried up creek/river bed no matter how temping it may be and be on alert if hiking up one.

In some of those shots the cameraman appeared to be standing closer to the flow than I would . . .

How did he keep getting in front of it?  I doubt he could run that far & fast.

Every time I come across something like that I think of the Thompson Canyon flood here in Colorado and the Johnstown flood, although that one was caused by a burst dam.

Talk about debris....

I noticed a lot of saw-cut timber debris in that. I wonder what the upstream story was.

Definitely !
With the way some of those logs were grinding up against the bank could have undercut it and dropped him into that mess.  There were also 3-4 shots where a log flipped up and came very close to hitting the cameraman.

No probably about it. Get caught in something like that and it would be like going through a meat grinder.

I wondered about that getting ahead to video it at different places, too. Then I dismissed it because of many possible explanations including even a road which paralled the general direction of the stream or maybe multiple camera operators pre-positioned along a known flash flood path.  So I let t go.

I also wondered about undercutting of his position in one sequence.  That's what causes the meandering of streams.  The slightest difference on one side versus the other and the erosion is greater on that one side. Once a curve due to this starts, it gets "worse" and "worse" resulting in the stream going this way and that way and this way and that way throughout its course.
