Springsteen performance at Harris rally
« on: October 28, 2024, 09:59:47 AM »
As I was getting ready this AM, SMWBO showed me a vid of a Harris political rally where some poor sap was doing an awful job at one of Bruce Springsteen's songs. Really awful. Like drunk karaoke "No sense of pitch or time" awful. Then it dawned on me, it wasn't someone covering Springsteen, it was Springsteen. Either he's really gotten bad with age, or he had one hell of a recording engineer most of his career.

I bet it is that last one.  Maybe he doesn't sing much anymore?

This reflects my knowledge of Bruce Springsteen songs.   =)

I did see a clip of his singing.  He is really old and sounds like it.

I saw that clip, and it was pretty bad. I agree with "old age". He did pretty well with acoustic versions in his younger years. Acoustic versions is how you really separate the wheat from the chaff. Some artists do acoustic versions of songs that I think are better than their studio versions, while with others, well, you know why they're in a studio with the magical electronics.

Someone online was calling him Ellen DeGeneres.

Looking at the pic I saw, that was my first thought.

One of my more unhinged conspiracy theories is that, when they become superstars, every famous and successful male actor or musician is given a magical concoction.

Whatever it is massively boosts their energy, looks, and charisma to stratospheric levels.

The downside is that they have to stop taking it at some point, and then they age like milk. Their masculinity evaporates, and they start looking like old lesbians.

That's what you see here. It's also evident with Jim Carrey, Axl Rose, Al Gore, Jeff Beck, Bono, Stephen Colbert, Robert Downey Jr., Dave Bautista (seen him lately?), Creepy Joe Biden, and plenty of others.

In thy presence is fulness of joy.
At thy right hand pleasures for evermore.

I hate to once again put on my tinfoil, but Lee's link does have a point about appearance, if not the magic elixir. Stephen King is another example of it.

Otherwise, all the men of older generations that I grew up around in person almost looked more manly as they aged, not less. I don't personally know any old guys that took on feminine physical characteristics like those in the examples in the link. My old man got frail in his last years, which was sad to watch, given how physically strong and active he was in his youth, but he still looked like a man up until the end.

Springsteen's voice was never that good.

Had plenty of loud music to cover it up with.

They can bring that magical electronics into what appears to be a live concert also.  Or they lip sync.  But yeah, a lot of modern singers are aided quite a bit by electronic aides.

This^^

Springsteen was never a great voice. He had good hooks and decent lyrics that resonated with a lot of people.

And yeah, a lifetime s8nging has worn what voice he had down.  I remember I went to a Meatloaf concert a couple years before he died.  That guy did have a heck of a voice in his prime, but it was pretty wore out as well.  Left me k8nda sad leaving the show, li,e why not hang it up when you don't have it anymore? Same holds true for some athletes I guess.  It's all they know so they just hang on, a shell of themselves.

My bet is that a lot of these older guys with money are playing with cosmetic procedures like botox to stay young looking, which ends up looking way too smooth and feminine.

I can't remember the exact "talk radio" show that was talking about this but they were wondering how they got Bruce to leave his "cryofreeze container".   :old:

Still mad at Meatloaf. The other carrier in the Persian puddle got the Dallas cowboys cheerleaders, we got Mr Loaf and Christine Whitman.
