Boeing wins NGAD contract
« on: March 22, 2025, 01:55:34 AM »
"NGAD" being the acronym du jour for Next Generation Air Dominance aircraft. Opinions are divided as to whether it's to be a fighter or something more.

So maybe some of the money recouped from phantom Social Security recipients will pay for the new plane's development.

If I knew anything about stock investing and had money,  I would have bought stock in Boeing when they were crashing.

Here in the land of Boeing, I am pleasantly surprised that they got the contract, give recent issues in the commercial and space divisions. It will be built in St. Louis, I am guessing, given the F-18 assembly line is close to ending.

They invested a lot in the St Louis facility in order to one of the Navy and Air Force fighters.

With Boeing winning the Air Force plane, Northrop Grumman is all but certain to win the Navy fighter.  Lock-Mart was removed a couple weeks ago from that competition. Highly unlikely, though not impossible, Boeing would get both.

I'm definitely hoping NG gets the Navy fighter.  Rumors of a COLA if we do.

I don't like Boeing, but I always liked their F35 candidate better than the one that ended up getting selected. I guess the pork barrel roulette wheel landed on Boeing for this one

LM has F-35.  That'll keep them building for a while yet.  Boeing and LM were bidding on the Air Force fighter, them plus NG for the Navy fighter. LM got ejected from the Navy competition.  So with Boeing getting the Air Force contract, it most likely NG will get the Navy contract.

I was kind of surprised Boeing got the contract, they have plenty of civilian business despite their problems and they are also building P8s for a handful of nations including the US along with providing airframes for the Wedgetail.

I saw one comment that Boeing has the new fighter now.  Lockheed Martin has the F-35.  Northrop Grumman has the B-21 stealth bomber.  The manufacturing gets spread around.  I think the same comment said the military already knew what it wanted and told them what to build.   =)

Due to "stealth" being significant, how about Nightcat?

Or Skycat/Lion for air dominance?

Cheetah due to most powerful engines and speed?

Leopard?

There's Bobcat but not sure if it fits ... =D

That might violate anti-DEI directives.

Cheshire Cat for the stealth capabilities would be apropos, but it just doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as previous "cat" names.

Hmmm . . . "Nocat" since it won't be seen by the enemy?  Ghostcat? Wraithcat?
