I bought that album back when.  My favorites are House Carpenter (cause I love those old, old folk tunes) and Brand New Sidewalk (great guitar, and that mournful bell sound near the end).  The girl has a pretty voice, and I think they all are highly regarded as musicians (by more knowledgeable folks than I).  Thile, of course, is a mandolin prodigy.

I wouldn't call them NewGrass, as I associate that with raping Bluegrass by turning it into long, drawn-out Grateful Dead jam jazz, devoid of soul.  Or the homo-erotic wailing of that loathsome singer from New Grass Revival.  I would say Nickel Creek is more of a Bluegrass-influenced string band that plays folk, folk-rock and bluegrass.  Or something like that, at least on that album.  Haven't kept up with them since then.  Just avoid that song about the fox and the hen house, or whatever.
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?

Hey, I _like_ Sam and Bela and the boys...

Been having a hankering for some Nurps lately...

And have any of y'all ever checked out a grass-inspired jam-band (at least they are now...) called The Goose Creek Symphony? They started about 1965, outta a high school band, and used a tuba for their bass... And it's what happens when you give Kentucky boys from back in the hollers some good 'lectric guitars, big amps, and a lot mind altering substances...

Hey cosine, they will be in Milwaukee 8/9 and down at Ravinia in Illinois the next day 8/10. Ravinia is a great outdoor venue to see a show if you ever get a chance.

This is possibly their last tour, they may be breaking up.

You need to go get yourself hooked up with that cute little fiddle player while shes in town. grin

After seven years of extensive touring in support of three records (seventeen years as a band), we've decided to take a break of indefinite length at the end of 2007 to preserve the environment we've sought so hard to create and to pursue other interests.   It has been a pleasure to write, record, and perform for you through the years and we'd like to heartily thank you for your invaluable contribution to our musical lives.

I know. Alas, I'm working and can't go. *sigh*

Ah, c'mon, fistful, you didn't like the The Fox? Nickel Creek's version of it on their Nickel Creek album isn't so great, but the live version on their Reasons Why CD rocks.

280, that Gypsy Grass/Gypsy jazz/whatever is some good stuff.  cool Frank Vignola is one of my favorite guitarists. Several of my jazz CDs have him as guitarist . cool
