who actually likes fruitcakes ??  (the food, not the people  rolleyes)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

In small quantities, sure, but there are rarely enough people who will even have a little to justify purchasing one.  I like to whip up some sour cream and honey topping for it and similar foods like raisin-nut bread.

No, you are not.

I have never understood why so many people loath fruitcakes.
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

I used to make fruitcakes every year. If I don't have them done by 1 november, I don't bother. After making the fruitcakes, it needs a liberal dousing with brandy every few days to get ready for the holidays.

Maybe next year I can get some done.

I LOVE fruitcake!! I guess that's because I grew up fairly poor and a fruitcake was a treat. I dunno...

Yes.  Gods that stuff is nasty.

There's a bunch of monks in a monkery up in the Keeweenaw peninsula in Michigan's you pee.  They make the stuff and include about a pint of brandy in each fruitcake.  Mmmmmmm goooood.

I make a very traditional English plum pudding ever year. It's very much like fruitcake. It's horrifically labor intensive, about 2 hours of prep followed by 4 hours of steaming.

I've taken them to several parties, and people BEG me to bring them the next year. My family also loves them.

I don't know if this is the same place, but they were awesome!!

I like fruitcake, especially those that are a bit more "cakey" and less "candy-like".

A thin slice of fruitcake (the real thing) with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream on top is yummy. It's also pretty good with a cup of hot chocolate made with cocoa (not syrup or Nestles quick or the like).

It all depends on the fruitcake.  Some is divine, some is inedible.

Thor, I think you're right on the Ya-Hoo cakes.  My clan always got the Collin St. cakes just out of regional preference, as we're more East than North Texan. Nowadays, Sherman is as close as Corsicana to where I am.  Myself, between the two, I don't have a preference- both are good.  I recall that at least one of each would show up around the house at some point during the holidays. Of course, my grandmother make an incredible fruitcake cookie called 'Russian Rocks' which has been pretty addictive. I'm sure the recipie is out there somewhere.  Probably a Southern Living magazine concept.

Regards,
Rabbit.
