Bowling for Columbine is evil because... it contains guns
« on: July 08, 2005, 10:58:39 AM »
Read this review here:
http://www.capalert.com/capreports/bowlingforcolumbine.htm

(I'm posting here rather than THR, because this comes from a Christian film review website, so could be considered a discussion about religion).

Notable daftness:
* Complaining that the film seems to be against legal/defensive use of firearms, while suggesting that even seeing a gun is inappropriate for children.

Quote
Wanton Violence/Crime (W)
# gunfire for show
# hunting gunfire
# firearm in public store
# target shooting and other recreational shooting

Impudence/Hate (I):
# claiming "establishment" relies on "scare tactics"
# Moore: "It still sucks being a teenager and it really sucks going to High School" nihilism, as if Moore is telling teens it sucks to be alive
# punk dress

Offense to God (O)
# goth dress

Christian fundamentalists perhaps???  I grew up living like this (well, having my parents try to force this crap on me).

I would caution anyone reading from this site to remember that just because someone (or group) identifies themself as a Christian, or even a fundamentalist Christian (a very misused term), doesn't mean that they speak for Christianity.  The author seems to make a lot of critiques that have little or nothing to do with scripture and more to do with his/her own opinion as to what children should watch.  I have not seen the movie, so I certainly can't comment on it.
