Newsmaxs Internet primary poll of the Republican race for president is released today with more than 400,000 respondents to our non-scientific survey.

With 23% of the vote, Congressman Ron Paul wins our online survey. Paul has the most aggressive internet presence of any Republican candidate and has already won several online polls, not to mention raising $20 million last quarter, mostly online.

Pulling solid numbers behind Paul were Fred Thompson with 19% of the vote, and Mike Huckabee, a late rising star, with 16%.

Newsmax poll respondents believe Rudy Giuliani with 28% of the vote has the best chance of defeating Hillary Clinton.

The Newsmax poll shows surprisingly little support for former front-runner John McCain.

Among the Republicans listed in the poll results, Newt Gingrich has not announced that he will seek the nomination, and Tom Tancredo and Sam Brownback have dropped out of the race.

Newsmax will provide the results of this poll to major media and share them with radio talk show hosts across the country.

This is good news for the GOP.  Hopefully freedom will change them into what they were before they were hijacked by the Religious right.

Come on man, you at least have to let the topic get close to the bottom of the page before you answer your own OP.  grin

Seriously tho, somebody needs to tell the Paulites that voting on the internet doesn't count in the real world. They need to hit the streets in numbers.

Speaking of hitting the streets. We had almost a hundred people downtown De Land FL in the freezing and breezing weather today waving Ron Paul signs and getting honked at. Was good to see a lot of youngsters out there!

And back in reality, RP gets 10% (with 93% of the precincts reporting) of the vote, tying with John McCain for 6th place.

Where are you checking the results?  I've been checking CNN (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#IA) and with 86% reporting McCain is 4th with 13% and Paul is 5th with 10%.  If you've got a source that updates faster I'd appreciate a link.

The Yahoo! link is averaging the number of precints reporting.  The Democrats have reported results in 100% of the precints while the Republicans are still at 86%.  That averages to 93%.

It appears that they're displaying results much like one would during a general election and not for a caucus.  That's an easy enough mistake.

Ignore what I just said.  CNN just updated and the Republicans have now reported 93% of their results.  Paul is still in 5th with 10%.

Did anyone remind Ron Paul's massive support base that yesterday was caucus day?

They didn't have their cell phone numbers?

It is refreshing to see the younger generation actually taking part in this.

Before the GOP added the RR to its coalition, it was an out-of-power minority party in search of relevance.

Ron Paul wins poll in High Times! grin
I do not smoke pot, wear Wookie suits, live in my mom's basement, collect unemployment checks or eat Cheetoes, therefore I am not a Ron Paul voter.

Most people here are probably familiar with the phrase, "Put your money where your mouth is". Seems that that would produce a more accurate assessment of a candidate's true level of support. How do the candidates rank in raised funds? Putting an x with your mouth is one thing. Digging into your pocket is another.

Putting down your bong and coming up from the basement to steal your mom's egg money is not exactly reaching into your own pocket! grin

I think it is going to be interesting considering the low percentage of people that vote in this country and the fact that Ron Paul supporters seem to come out in the nastiest weather to any event. If I remember right, around 20% of this country votes in the general election overall. If only 7% of the population are Ron Paul fans, he should win because they would all actually vote. In theory anyway. Long live the mayor of crazytown, RON PAUL 08!

Well, he's been excluded from FOX's debates now, so the Paulians are likely to do something stupid.

*makes popcorn*  cheesy

(Oh, yeah, also? There were a bunch of Paulians in Manchester chanting "9/11 was an inside job!" over and over...sane people? I think not!)

I like Ron Paul simply because he cares about the country.  Unlike the others, his supporters actually do something and act on their beliefs.

What?

Here, they march up and down the street ruining a Holiday Walk by bellowing about 9/11 and scaring children. They also get themselves arrested for not having registration stickers on their cars, and then hassle the police about being arrested.

Elsewhere, they get themselves arrested for trying to pass off funny money as US legal tender.

If they keep it up, they'll all be in jail for asinine stunts, and it'll be a lot quieter here. Seriously, they're like freaking political Hare Krishnas, the ones here.

I'll be "throwing away" my vote on the guy I agree with most on the issues (so I'm insane and don't count), but that's got to be the Ron Paul-related quote of the year.  Hilarious grin
He never brought you an unbalanced budget, which is a perennial joke. He never voted himself a wage increase and, to this day, gives back part of his salary every year. He has always voted to preserve the Constitution, cut government spending, lower healthcare costs, end the war on drugs, secure our borders with immigration reform and protect our civil liberties.
