Gay Marriage, should it be legal?
« on: January 25, 2008, 07:02:13 AM »
Should the government be deciding who can and who cannot get married? Does anyone else think that it is sad that people who love each other are denied the same rights as you or I because some people dont like the thought of them getting married?

Tobacco illegal and gay divorce?

But then the fags will think they're as good as us!

Of course they should be able to.

I think the gay marriage argument has been fought poorly on both sides.  If it was my decision, I'd do it thusly:

Get the government out of the "marriage" business altogether.  Instead, everyone should be able to qualify for "Partnership" liscences in order to gain the financial/legal benefits currently associated with marriage.  This way, gay/straight/whatever couples who want to gain those benefits all get to have the same rules.  Then, if you want this partnership to have any religious commitment overtones, you can find the nearest church/synagogue/whatever that will agree to conduct your "marriage" ceremony.  Same rules for everyone = no reason to fight.

He has always voted to preserve the Constitution, cut government spending, lower healthcare costs, end the war on drugs, secure our borders with immigration reform and protect our civil liberties.

Oh that it were that simple.

As you'll find at APS, 'marriage as contract' is just as much a debasement for some people as inter-species marriage. They won't even consider compromise.

I'm more or less a Libertarian, so I couldn't care less what people do as long as it isn't harming someone else.

Agree with the dead horse. Much like abortion threads, these always end badly. Locked in the interest of polite society.
