A little background first, a young female college student was abducted just off campus and after that the police/media released reports of a serial rapist stalking the college girls.

Letter: Rules won't let adults protect themselves

Posted: 2/13/2008

The Brianna Denison case and the recent revelations of sexual assaults on the University of Nevada campus highlight the cold hard facts of life.

The police can not keep you safe; it is your own personal responsibility. Insane rules prohibit adults that have a concealed-carry permit to carry on campus. No doubt the rapist is aware of this fact. However, the assailant carries a gun anyway, proving once again that gun laws disarm only those who obey laws.

Another cold hard fact. Registered sex offenders are allowed to use the campus and go to school, but people who chose to defend their own lives and have had extensive background checks and training required to obtain a concealed handgun permit cannot enjoy the same campus that sex offenders can.

 cool

Good point in your last paragraph.
Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin
