THR  UPCOMING DOWNTIME

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're moving. When the move is over we'll be on a faster server, with more hard drive space, in (what should prove to be) a better datacenter.

The move is going to be painful though. I'll be shutting the server down this weekend for twenty-four hours. For the most part you'll see a message saying "we're moving," but it's quite possible you'll see a message indicating a database error from time to time as well. This is normal.

When we're back up, if everything goes well, it'll have been worth the wait.

Isn't APS on the same server, so subject to the same shut-down?  I hope.   smiley

Yup. Haven't heard anything here yet, but AFAIK all is still connected and if THR goes down, so will APS.

Well, Derek Zeanah  put it up on THR in a great big unmissable notice, and I didn't see any great big unmissable notice here, and I don't know if they're on the same server or not.

So I can't say fer sure one way or the other.

Maybe they're ashamed of being associated with us.  Given how many threads seem to gravitate to Fistful's beauty, I would be too.   grin

A weekend without discussing fistful's legs.....

I don't know if I can make it.....

I don't know the inner workings of the server and forum software, but is there any guarantee we'll go offline just because they take THR offline?  It seems to me that while we're both on the same server, we're two different processes.  Shutting one down shouldn't affect the other unless there are shared components.

Uh, if they are physically moving the server to another location, then yeah, we're going down hard.

Oh, I didn't know they were doing that.  I thought they were moving the site (software) to another server.  Anyway, I have confirmation that we are going down as well.

Actually I think you're right.  I didn't catch the bit about a new server.  But still, we're going down.  BAIL BAIL BAIL!

Such horrors after an APS/THR shutdown?  The mere thought of that combination is enough to drive one insane.  Who the heck is admining this server?  Derek or Cthulhu?

Here's a thread from Derek.  He says the site will be down for 24 hours, but not when.

But, i think the time is off by several hours.
Time it says you post something is different than when you actual post something.
And yes, the right time zone is optioned.

Yes, the time setting on the server is a little messed up.

They'll correct it when they have the important things done.
