Sam's Club anyone?
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:06:55 PM »
We were thinking about joining Sam's Club as we heard they offer a lifetime warranty on all their stuff.  Is this true?  If I were to buy a TV or something and it fries years down the road, would they give a refund or allow me to apply the amount to a new one?  If so, that would be awesome!

Wife and I have a membership, her parents pay for it since their is one in our town and not one in theirs.

I use it to buy booze, she uses it for everything else and whatever her mom wants.

I'm not sure about the whole lifetime guarantee thing.

Nope. With WalMart playing footsie with Michael Blooomberg Sam's Club is out of the question for me.

I have a membership at Costco, because I think it's just plain better than Sam's. I highly doubt Sam's offers such a warranty. Costco used to have a guarantee/return policy nearly that good, but changed it due to too many people abusing it as a means to "upgrade" their purchase for free a year down the road.

You can buy a warranty on some of their stuff.

I shop at Sams because I really can save money.  Toilet paper, canned goods, durables, etc.  It's the same stuff I can buy at Biggy Grocery, only in bulk.  It may only be a few cents here and there, but it adds up.  I figure I save about four times the $35 annual membership fee.

Keep in mind that I shop the heck out of eveything and keep pretty close tabs on prices for stuff I use regularly.  I don't haul off and just buy something because it's at Sams.  I buy it because I know it's a better deal.  I also only make about four big runs a year.  I stock up on everything and several months worth of reserves.  That way the only thing I have to make a special trip for is perishables, which I do every two weeks.

Up here in the hometown of Costco, there are only a couple of Sam's Clubs in the Seattle area, and none of them are close to me.  I have gone to one a couple of times with some friends.  For the same item stocked at both Sam's and Costco, the prices were comparable.  But it seemed as if Costco had more items than did the Sam's Club.  It may be that the Sam's Clubs in other areas are larger and thus have more a larger number of stock keeping units.
