The Bravery of Barack Obama
« on: May 06, 2008, 01:18:14 PM »
We've all heard about the immense courage summoned by Barack Obama, right?  When he was the only one to bravely stand up to George Bush's mad rush to war in Iraq, which took many, long, agonizing months?  Every time I hear that tripe, I used to think my rememberer must be off, because I'd never heard of Obama before the Iraq War.  Well, I just looked it up, and, sure enough, he got to Washington in 2005.  But he likes to brag about his opposition to the Iraq war back before we invaded (but the way we rushed in there, how did he even know it was something to oppose?)  Anyway, I just want to ask, how much courage does it take to oppose something, when no one is even listening to you?

Now, if he had faced the firing squad, or the torture chamber, like all those other people that said the war would be a bad idea, now THAT would have been courageous.

You forget, he has to face Michelle every night.

Then Bill must be a super-hero.....
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

Okay, then you go home to her every night  ??

Where can you get cast iron jock straps ??  I'd bet that's all that stands in the way of her foot and Bill's little friend.  I shudder when I think of how she's handling the campaign situation in private these days.......
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

By posting that link I was trying to imply that I don't think he's going home to her every night.   undecided

Anyway, I just want to ask, how much courage does it take to oppose something, when no one is even listening to you?

Honestly?  I think, "a lot," if you ever think you might go somewhere.

I am on record, lots of places, saying that Native American sovereignty is a myth (Limited sovereignty?  Oxymoron.), that doing things like filing litigation for direct ownership of the Black Hills is incredibly stupid and merely pricks the leviathan, and that the recent actions of the Cherokee tribe are stupid beyond all comparisons.  (They have, by virtue of acts, invited the Feds into the henhouse to determine who is, and is not, Native, on a case-by-case basis.)

If/when I ever am placed in a leadership position, for/by Natives, for business/politics, I hope I was right.  (I AM.)

Such stances do not readily go away.

The real query is whether Obama made such a stance anticipating long-term government/military ineffectualness -- status quo -- so that he would appear Golden Boy.  That's not bravery...
