Seeing stars
« on: June 06, 2008, 07:46:20 AM »
This is probably a dumb question but what do the stars under our forum names indicate. I just noticed that I have two now instead of one but I'm not sure if that is intended to convey any meaning or what I did to earn the second star.

It is based on your number of posts.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

It is based on your number of posts.

If that is the case why do you have one gold star with 2,300+ posts. While I have 100+ posts and have two gold stars. Very odd.

Actually, it's not based on much of anything anymore.

There are several restricted-use subforums. The process of establishing those subforums resulted in the stars going kerfluy.

Actually, the number of stars indicates how much we like you.

You had two because we liked you.

Wmen has one because, well, we don't like him.  Primarily because he plays with guns, and EVERYONE knows that guns are bad.

That said, for asking such a stupid question, we no longer like you, and you will be demoted to one star.

Have a nice day.

5 Red stars are for Admins.  IIRC (and I'm too lazy to look), Mods get 4 Blue stars.

Admins and moderators do, of course, have a different display.

I was speaking in terms of the general membership.

It's really because the mods have an inferiority complex and we need to give them more stars to overcompensate for other, er, shortcomings.

Just like a bunch of conversative, quibbling over the numbers and not paying attention to the vital symbolism that means so much.  Really, the stars are a very exclusionary system of denoting whatever the heck it is they denote.  Why do we have to be so mean to people who aren't like us, with out stars and stripes and other imperialist symbols.  We should, perhaps, offer the option of a crescent for certain forum members who might otherwise feel excluded.

Also, I think a star is a very domineering, male, oppressive symbol of the patriarchy, and I'm being oppressed over here.

I agree.....we should change the stars into Corvettes.......

I have two. Do I get a third if I change my avatar to Oprah? Oh, and do extra stars put me in a higher tax bracket?

Get your monitor calibrated.

On my monitor they're gold/bronze.
