There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

It's like someone made a rapid reaction force for a mall, but one that would be outmaneuvered by kids on Heely's.  I just see them reaching steps or a curb and having to break off pursuit and being mercilessly taunted.

If the muzzles were red, I'd guess that at least the guys up front were playing with some type of Airsoft . . .  police

If you get shot and die while riding a Segway, do you still fall over?

No, your noble steed carries you straight to Valhalla, where you dine with the valiant!

Actually, you probably show up at a recharging station somewhere eventually...

I was visitng my dad at the VA hospital a week ago Sunday and saw a VA cop on one. We had a brief chat about it. I came away convinced it is less silly than it looks. I think the idea of using it as an armed platform is just plain dumb though.

The mall police at Paradise Valley mall here in AZ use them.  I busted up laughing when one rolled past me down the hallway.  The guard (275 pounds of old, short and rolly-polly) turned and watched me laughing at him, then kept going on his way.

At least he didn't have a .300 Winmag in a briefcase and multiple trauma plates taped to his back. grin

Yeah, they're fast, so a cop/security can cover a lot of ground without much effort.  Still not sure how appropriate they are for law enforcement, though.

I have tried one out; anyone riding one is the proverbial sitting duck. A great way to get fat and lazy too.

I thought they designed the LEO model with a donut hole-sized handlebar.  You can stack six glazed on either side!

Maybe if they stuck one of those ballistic riot shields on the front, it would work......as is, I'm thinking "easy target".....

I'd kinda like one of those "Chinese Skorpion" subguns, though.....  cool

rolleyes  If you know what to compare it to, which would be someone on foot.  It's faster than a lot of people can run.  And for a security guard patrolling a mall, it's much faster than walking.

Its not an infantry fighting vehicle. It is for someone to get from point A to point B a little faster and easier than running/walking when a car is not the appropriate means.

Kind of a modern day bicycle. But when you arrive you have done no work so you are not out of breath and sweating.

I know what they are not, and what they are good for. As depicted in both photos posted so far - they are not good for, for the reason I pointed out.

For what they are good for, a bicycle costing but a minute fraction will do the same thing; and allow jumping curbs and other obstacles, travel off paved surfaces, and not require expensive battery packs to charge, replace etc.

And I perhaps couldn't find two more graphic examples than the two posted photos. In the first one, about the only thing a shooter might find easier targets are full torso silhouettes - as opposed to the "mere" half torso silhouettes afforded by the clowns on their elevated platforms.

And that is not even taking into account bullets deflected by the horizontal surfaces of the car. Stand on a segway, and try and make a split second jump sideways from one and you will get an idea of how ... uh .. ungraceful you are going to look falling awkwardly to the concrete when bullets start flying and you realize you are in fact a sitting duck.

Of course, how many here can fire a subgun while riding a bike?.....
