49 States?

Is there any method under the US constitution to force a State out of the Union? Say a State (or city) is poisoning the political process and generally ignoring the Constitution, could the rest of the States petition to have it removed?

Figure out the Dr. Evil seismic thing so we can trigger massive quakes to make Cali fall off. That seem easiest. Or burn Prius (how the heck do you pluralize Prius anyways? Pious?) until global warming causes New Jersey to be below sea level.

Thanks for the informative reply. I'm sure the 2nd is pretty simple to understand also, but SCOTUS still came up 5-4. Also I'm sure every State entered into the Union under the exact same terms so nothing is worth discussing. Shame on me for seeking the viewpoint of others on a topic which doesn't meet your level of scrutiny.

I will assume you're referring Texas v White and Article V.

I think it would be much easier to create a new state than it would be to "evict" one from the union. I think all you need is some land and 10,000 people.
