Edwards was interviewed by ABC and told them, "McCain had an affair too!" Sort of like what you did when you were a kid trying to get out of punishment.

Apparently ABC edited it out of the transcript, so you can only see it in the interview video.

For some reason I never understood, that was a popular comeback when you had no legitimate comeback when I was in my teen years.

I would have little trouble believing accusations including alcohol & womanizing.

BTW, the accusations of such date from his time in the Navy and his first marriage, which ended in the late 1970s/early 1980s, IIRC, while he was in the Navy.

He had several affairs IIRC including with the Beer Blonde... the point surely is that he never denied it, accepted the blame and - most importantly - didnt go on about what a great husband he was while simultaneously banging one of his staff, and all the while paying her off out of campaign funds.

Still, I hope anyone who donated to Edwards '08 appreciates that he at least spent their money on something worthwhile.

Actually, there is some indication that he may have.  The woman Edwards was having an affair with has recently given birth, and she's refusing to allow paternity tests (she also failed to name the father on the birth certificate).

Everybody go read The Nightengale's Song.  It's the story of the bunch of Annapolis grads (McCain, North, Webb, Poindexter, et al.) who played so prominently in the last 30 years.  A solid chapter is devoted to one of McCain's torrid affairs.

I believe the line about the young McCain was "When he walked into the room, you could hear the skivvies drop."  I think it was Webb who said it.  McCain has always been a ladies man, and everybody has always known it.
