Cuban Olympian faces lifetime ban from sport...
« on: August 23, 2008, 08:14:19 PM »
Why?

He was pissed because he lost the bronze medal match, so he laid one into the match referee.

Actually I have read that not only he but his coach have been banned for life.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Only the dead have seen the end of war!

They apparently can't be banned until the world governing body meets officially to decide.

The Cuban coach was also mouthing off, essentially saying it was justified.

Wow. That could kill someone. Ban is quite correct.

Kind of violates the spirit of that martial art to use it for attack, too.

Jail him for assault and battery.

I was going to say, shouldn't he be tossed in jail for at least assault?  If not attempted murder?

Why?  He's lifetime banned from the Olympics.  And any other international sports league, most likely.  If they're not going to arrest him for assault that's friggin recorded twenty ways to Sunday, I doubt they'd nail him on drug charges.

To mess with him even moar. Not only a kick in the ass, but a slap in the face too. "Well, you've been banned for life, oh, and we want you to pee in this cup" laugh

Agree with the ban, agree with a criminal investigation. That picture makes it look a lot worse than it was though, very flashy kick, not a lot of damage done.

Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.  Banning is a butt-slap.

Jail him for assault and battery.

Agreed....banning him forever is appropriate, but a little time in a Chinese detention facility will adjust his view on sportsmanship quite effectively....

They just need to go back to the old ways . . . the really old ways.

Like, the days of the Mayan civilization. You know? Just sacrifice the loser as a token to the gods immediately after the match. That probably would make people try a lot harder, and break more records. Plus, no one would have to worry about charging this angry Cuban guy with anything, they could just throw him into the volcano and be done with it.

Just sayin.'

I wonder what the ancient Greeks would think about our modern Olympics.

Dude, it's the Olympics, they already do that.

As I understand it, EVERY medal winner does a whiz test for a number of banned drugs.

As for arresting him, this is China we're talking about, and he's a member of the consortium of Fraternal Communist Nations. Probably not going to happen.

Good Riddance.

If the guy can't handle a call with which he disagrees, then he should pick some other skill to excel in, like raft-building.
He never brought you an unbalanced budget, which is a perennial joke. He never voted himself a wage increase and, to this day, gives back part of his salary every year. He has always voted to preserve the Constitution, cut government spending, lower healthcare costs, end the war on drugs, secure our borders with immigration reform and protect our civil liberties.

Considering the original olympics were competitions of athletic and martial prowess, I bet they'd think the modern olympics are the masturbatory efforts of effete girly-men.

Nice truck. I always wonder why the Cuban refugees I saw come over never thought of doing outriggers with a barrel at the end of a board to keep the boat from capsizing. Hawaiians and other islanders did outriggers for thousands of years.

Right, but they were in the ocean paddling around *all the time* for a few thousand years.  Cubans don't really have the time to learn efficient boat building.

I always loved that truck raft. The story on that was a ton of plastic barrels, prop hooked to the driveshaft and 50 people on the way to Florida. We need to let some people that have that level of ingenuity and motivation into the country. Nice truck too. Sadly it was sank by a Coast Guard door gunner after they picked all the people off.

To actually comment on the original thread subject; I had no idea how gay Olympic TKD was until I went searching for the story behind the boot to the head picture. The cuban was mad because he was disqualified after taking too long to get up after a 1 minute injury time. Hmmm, in any real martial art you want to fall down with an injury that's fine, the other guy gets one minute to kick the snot out of you. Then of course there is that barrel he is wearing for protection.

I thought it was every athlete, often blood tests drawn both before and after the competition?

What do you think Cuba will do with him now that he is no longer an Olympic athlete?
