Anyone have a source for the current batch of Senators up for re-election in 2008?
I have a sneaky suspicion that they are Republican by a significant majority.
I think Pelosi knew that there would be backlash against the first house of Congress to pass a bill like this. She didn't want to lose the Dem majority in the House, so she let the Senate run with it.
The class of 2002 would be predominantly Republican in response to the 9/11/01 attacks and the beginnings of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. At least, that's my suspicion.
I think Reid and Pelosi are hoping to push their Dem advantage to > 60 in the Senate, and pick up a few more House seats by un-seating some Republican Representatives by riding the wave of anger over the Bailout that everyone hates.

Neither of my Senators are up for re-election here in WI, my congressman is and although he has been pretty gun friendly he's toast to me as he voted for this boondoggle.
