Amusingly good re-edited trailer for a not so good movie...
« on: October 10, 2008, 10:10:45 PM »
Amazing what good editing can do. If the whole movie had kept to this sort of look, (it did have good FX for the time), it might have been a classic.

(It's for The Black Hole, and they did a good job of editing together a newer-style trailer!)

I actually liked that movie.

That bit when you got to see Maxamillian's human eyes freaked me out as a kid when I saw it.

I liked that movie, too.  I saw it again a few years ago and thought it holds up fairly well.  I remember seeing it when it came out.  I was 10 or 11 and thought it was fantastic.  I still have some "Black Hole" sheets packed away in the basement.

Despite its obvious flaws, I too like The Black Hole as simple comic book SciFi fare.

In the vein of reworked trailers, this one for Leon is a favorite:

I assumed it was because Dr. Whatshisface got stuck inside Maximilian's shell for his punishment in the er... "Hell-end" of the Black hole...
I promise not to duck.

Seems a lot like Event Horizon. Except it came first, and looks a lot better.

Strange, I rented that movie from netflix about 2 months ago.  I was always fascinated with it as a kid, now that I watched it as an adult there are some really wacked out kinda artsy fartsy references in there...still good though.

It's got several great scenes. One is the little ship playing its searchlight over the massive Cygnus, which then lights up all at once, looking like an Eiffel Tower in space. Nice design.

Another is when someone is looking through the abandoned crew quarters, finding personal effects, uniforms, all that.

But then Disney put in those robots and some horrible dialogue and bad acting. As I said, if they kept to the hardcore psychological thriller bit and Gothic Spaceship aspects, it could have been a classic.

If you want to see just some of the VFX space scenes, which are surprisingly good, someone put together a reel of just those.
