Goodbye Thread
« on: October 07, 2005, 08:36:24 AM »
I just wanted to say that I am going to have to disappear from the Armed Polite Society and The High Road for a while, maybe several years.  I hope they are still here when I return someday.  There are a number of things to which I need to pay more attention, and I spend too much time on these forums (the only ones I contribute to).  Unfortunately, every paragraph I write in a thread means at least half-an-hour of pondering and composing.  (I think thoroughly, not quickly!)  Come to think of it, its probably been over a year since Ive fired even one round.  Whats worse, the wife and I just got a television, so now Im really in danger of wasting time!

I have really enjoyed the lively debate with some of you, and I never fail to learn something when Im here.  I never guessed there would be so many gun-nuts who are libertarian, Jewish, Pagan, cat-owners or all of the above.  And this just brushes the surface of the diversity and collective knowledge found on these boards.  I recall straightening out someone named Pat Rogers on the definition of machine gun some time ago, and wondering why everyone thought I was either gutsy or foolish to argue with him.  Then I learned about his credentials.  Smiley  I would especially like to thank Hunter Rose and Salukifan for challenging my arguments, and forcing me to think a little harder.  My first few months, I was pretty rough around the edges, but I have learned quite a bit about how to argue effectively and politely.

I will be watching for response to this thread, but beyond that, Im gonna need to quit.  If you catch me responding to any other threads, please remind to shut up and go do something.  Thanks everyone, and best wishes!

Adios, friend.  You will leave a hole behind (in the 10 ring) when you go.  Have enjoyed your company, thoughts, arguments, positions and just plain BS at times.
Hope you are able to find your way back sometime.

fistful,

It's been a real pleasure debating with you.  Whether myself or other posters agreed with you or not, we could always tell that you put a lot of thought and effort into every post.  By the end of the "Homophobia" thread, I think we both felt like boxers who'd gone 15 rounds, but it was an excellent debate and I really enjoyed the back-and-forth.  I learned a lot from debating with you and I appreciate your logic and civility.

We'll miss you here.  Enjoy your newly freed-up time with your friends and your family (and your new TV) and maybe we'll see you back here some time.

Best Wishes,
    SalukiFan

SalukiFan, I'm afraid I thought and efforted too much over those posts, and less I do it again, I will go and do something.

Wonder what's on TV?

Sorry to see you go !

I hope you enjoy the change of pace though and I wish you well , sometimes you need to get your tires out of the ruts and go off in a different direction.

Well, if you're leaving, I hope we at least inspired you for your next endeavor.

Or you could just change your name to "handful".  You have more room in a handful than in a fistful, right?

I wish you luck.

For goodness sakes, go shooting, please!  You should also spend time doing other worthwhile activities.  Whatever you do though, get rid of the boob tube, nothing but a waste of time.

Talk to you again in a week or two.  (That's my prediction) Smiley

I guess, but Clint Eastwood had a fistful of dollars.

MaterDei, this is from the duplicate thread at THR:

Yeah, we don't get good reception with the bunny ears, anyway, so I might just remove those and just use it for recorded stuff. I've been without television about half of my life, off and on. I'll have to get those Firefly DVD's. Missed that one.
I just remembered I haven't watched my copy of Yojimbo in ages.  Since the wife makes me watch musicals and Anne of Green Gables, I'll have to make her watch that one.  Smiley
