Yup. As I said, that kid I mentioned the article about will definitely get taxed out of business.

Uhm...

that's an unsubstantiated claim on a blog spot.

Any backup to the claim?

Did you watch the video? It's Obama saying $200K.

Video?

Ah, that's the missing part.

I see no video. The company I work for has done a very good job at shutting down streaming everything. Apparently they've gotten so good at it that I don't even see an indication that there's supposed to be a video there.

Ok, I won't be able to watch the video for a couple of hours yet.

Is there any indication as to when it was taken?

The Blog has an Obama commercial from Youtube. Unless they are SERIOUSLY good at video manipulation, it's authentic.

However, Obama is saying that everyone under $200K is getting a tax cut. He is not per se saying that he has moved the goals. He has just changed his rhetoric from TAX HIKE ON EVERYONE OVER $250K to TAX CUT ON EVERYONE UNDER $200K. Not necessarily a contradiction, but given the propensity of democrats to go back on their promises... it is worrisome. (Of course, not any more worrisome to those of us who have expected this from the beginning...)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I didn't catch anything in the video that would give it a date, other than mentioning the "Wall Street rescue plan".

The options are 1) he dropped the "we'll screw you" level to $200K, or 2) everyone who makes $1 more than $200K or $1 less than $250K will be unaffected by changes in the tax rate.

I'd say option 1 is infinitely more likely.

I heard McCain say this morning that Biden had lowered it to $150K in a speech......

AFAIK the income tax itself started out as a low rate (1% if I recall) on the top 1% of income earners. Within a rather short time, the highest bracket was 70%, and the income tax was levied on all but the lowest incomes.

Once the grand plan is in place, juggling the numbers around is trivial.

It's been that way for quite a while, if memory serves... maybe since the 2nd debate. His story has been that people making up to 250k won't see their taxes increased. People making more will see an increase. People making under 200k will see a decrease. The 200k-250k set get to pay the same amount (implied, don't think he's actually said so). Gots to spread the wealth, y'know.

Since I only make a measly $100K (b-4 taxes) if I work full time all year, I'm going to be expecting some significant handouts from Uncle Sugar  =D

It's really hard for us to get by ... I can only afford another gun once in a great while, and that $4000 custom saddle is way out of reach. ;)

I'll make maybe 20k this year before taxes. So under Obama's plan I would probably get back from the Gummint that I payed in.

I see 30k in a good year with my overtime.

On the one hand, it's hard to complain I'm getting more of my money back.  As I think we're already overtaxed it's a good thing.

On the other hand principle makes me go wtf when I see others getting taxed at unfair levels.  Double that if I'm actually receiving other peoples money.

That commerical is now running on the Chicago stations.  The 200K has now been deleted.

If memory serves, Clinton promised (supposedly) a middle class tax cut when he ran for office.  What happened to that one?  :)  I believe he raised taxes later.

I have two graduate degrees (M.Sc.) in the hard sciences.  I'm getting ready to start my MBA this coming summer.  I'm starting to wonder if I should even bother killing myself at work & school.  Seriously, why bother working my but off if it's not going to help me pay off my student loans, buy my future family a better life, etc......

My sister (a doctor with $250K in student loans) is incredibly depressed right now.

Screw socialism, I'm starting to wonder if this is communism.

I shudder to think how bad the handout could get considering how bad it is now. The EIC thing is shocking. The military already has it good with non taxable allowances, serving in tax free zones and such. Then comes EIC. April is like Christmas. People are shocked to hear that my family still owes 4-5K after they told me that they are getting back at least that much. Junior paygrades that are poor enough to qualify for EIC and paid in nowhere near as much as their refund. Meanwhile my wife works harder than ever to pay double Social Security since she is self-employed. If it gets much worse I think I'll find a nice hobby and not work ever again, why pay for someone else?

While I don't make 250k, my boss might.  And his boss probably does. When the guy writing the paychecks has lass money, those paychecks tend to have less money in them as well.  I WANT my boss and his boss to keep their money.  They use that money to pay me.

With that kind of talk, he's going to start reaching into the pockets of "regular" folks in Northern Va.  It's not unusual for a "worker bee" type IT guy to be pulling down numbers between $100k and $150k, maybe more if they have an in-demand skill set.

I wonder if they'll notice before it's too late...

Was this not completely predictable?  Once you take money from some people, it is easy to take money from everyone else.

Do they still make that? I thought that was mostly pre-H1B and before many companies outsourced their entire IT operations to India. I know of a lot of out-of-work IT sorts.
