Going to watch the Obama Show tonight?

Half-hour primetime, meant to appeal to the sorts who...watch prime time network sitcoms.

I have to wonder how dumbed-down and false it will be.

I'm going to watch.  I'm used to watching garbage; as my wife ties the TV up, and loves watching any show that starts with "America's Next Top..."

I genuinely like the guy, which I realise isn't a popular opinion here.  I'd go have a beer with him.  Unfortunately, that's the absolutely worst qualification for a president I can think of.  That's how we got where we are today.

I think things are going to have to get far worse before they get better.  I'd rather get it over with.

I'd like to "hope" he'll be as wonderful as all his followers think he will be.  I genuinely hope he's even 1/3 as wonderful.

Unfortunately, I have a pretty good idea what will really happen, because I'm a realist.
At BEST, he'll fix what's wrong with this country, and create a whole hoarde of new problems.
Realistically, the best I can hope for is that the GOP gets a wakeup call, tells the religious right to beat it, and remakes itself into something resembling a more conservative, less authoritarian party.

IT's sad, I know a lot of conservative Obama voters.  Nobody I know thinks he's going to be a good president.  Most of them, like me, are sending a message to the GOP to shape up.  It's a message I hope is heeded quickly.

Then again, maybe the Democratic party really IS what this country needs.
I kind of look at it like Ipecac.  This country's so sick right now, we need to induce vomiting, and Obama will certainly handle that like a pro.

This is why my television seldom gets turned on. Nothing but garbage ever shows up on it. If it wasn't for things like the History Channel and such, I'd sell the danged contraption.

I will enjoy watching a socialist tell me that free-market capitalism is an out-dated, failed idea, whose time has passed.

I will enjoy watching a wealthy celebrity criticize his opponent for having too many houses; even though the latter spent years in a North Vietnamese prison. 

He will then lecture his opponent about making personal attacks. 

I will enjoy watching an associate of ACORN blame the free market and the GOP for an economic disaster that is largely the fault of his own party and their meddling with business, to curry favor with groups like ACORN.

I will enjoy watching a freshman Senator with very little experience and no real record of accomplishment, blasting another politician for her inexperience.  Even though she has the same length of experience, and a number of commendable accomplishments.

By that I mean he has no experience at leadership training--just pretty-sounding ideals. He clearly has never translated any one of his high ideals into reality. Lacking that, he'll surround himself with people he thinks CANimplement his theories. And that scares the *expletive deleted*it out of me. Just look at whom he's chosen, in the past, to associate with. Then look at whom the DNC is likely to push on him.

Those people are scary.

Obama probably gained a few votes tonight, and put on a good show for his already committed followers.

I can't help but wonder if this infomercial didn't hurt him to some degree, though. The criticism of him is that he's a tax-and-spend liberal. Buying millions of dollars of air time for what is obviously a costly production may serve to emphasize that criticism.

McCain better point that out. It keeps moving lower, it will keep on moving lower.

McCain should have staked out the middle-class as his constituency right off the bat and made clear that Obama is about the underclass and always has been.

I'm sure none of you were fooled into thinking that I would watch the Obama show.  I just wanted to point out a few glaring holes in The Gospel of Obama.  I was going to list some more, but that could go on forever, and I have more important things to do.

While listening to the radio this morning, I heard that he spent about $3 million to get "Obama-rama" broadcasted on all the major networks---including World Series time......

Doesn't that sound pretty cheap for that kind of prime-time air time?

To Obama, there is no such thing as self-caused poverty. Just people whom the wealthy aren't sharing enough with.

Actually, is there any more verifiable news on Biden quoting $150K? This publicly, and practically nonchalantly, dropping the cutoff before they're even in office is kinda scary.

I believe 150K is for an individual, the 250k number is for a family. The range of 200k to 250k will not see any change in taxes, so saying "You won't see a tax increase if you make less than 250k" and "You'll get a tax cut if you make under 200k" is not a change in policy. You can disagree that it's a good policy, and there are good reasons to, but it hasn't changed as far as I can tell.

Anyway - I think this is part of McCain's problem. When you're supposed to be the "lower taxes" guy, it would help if people knew your tax plan and if/how it applied to them. Obama's plan gets talked about MUCH more and with the specific numbers. People can say "Hey, I make less than 200k, that means me!" while McCain's plan is hardly discussed and when it is, it's usually a comparison showing how much more Obama will give the average household.

yes, regarding families he said under 200k would get a cut. The range of 200k - 250k remains unchanged. Above 250k gets a tax increase. This has been my understanding all along. People are confusing "You get a tax cut" with "Your taxes won't increase", they correspond to different numbers.

Frankly I cringe when I hear the term "working families" coming from either candidate.

This nation is supposed to be about individual rights, not family rights or family benefits.  One more sign of the fact that Obama is thinking of the underclass.

Also, the concept of "working families" seems to suggest that people who invest and save are out of the orbit of concern--in other words, fair game tax-wise.  Saving and investment represents priot labor.   I hope a socialist like Obama can comprehend that.
