Daylight Slaving Time
« on: November 01, 2008, 08:09:20 PM »
Came close to forgetting the change...again. How I loathe the time changes.

I wonder how much money is flushed down the toilet writing scripts/setting timeclocks etc. etc.

You think you hate it...  I am working mid-shift (11pm-7am) this month.  I get to repeat an hour of work instead of sleep!

Don't get me started on my pet peeve.

I thought that if it was shown there was no energy savings with extended DST that we were supposed to switch back to the old schedule? I know I saw some gov report somewhere that showed no savings last year. What the hell?

I certainly know my lights were on for an extra couple of hours every morning last month.

Don't they know it causes additional global warming?   ;/

Here, it means that it gets dark at about 4pm. :P

Gonna be REAL interesting when it gets dark that early if there's post-election riots...

In general, it's just a pain. In spring, people are crashing all over the roads. In fall, the kitties are rolling around the bed and asking for breakfast an hour early for weeks, they go by their own clock, which doesn't adjust.

Letting the cats in the house was your first mistake.  :P

Let in? They're purebred show cats. Also very polite and neat. They don't even bother me till it's the time I'm supposed to wake up. Which daylight savings time confuses, I don't blame them for that. It messes me up, too.

LOL. Reminds me of the old story about the farmer calling in to some government agency and complaining bitterly about how that extra hour of daylight was burning up his crops.

Oh.  Your first mistake was paying too much for the cats.  Again, :P

Well, let's see. I have a couple of loving pets with impeccable manners who are extremely intelligent, only play with their own toys, and have a special sort of temperament unique to the breed. They're more like a couple of happy and expressive little kids than "cats."

So no, I don't think I paid too much at all. I consider them priceless.

And criticizing someone's loved pets tends to be a losing proposition. FYI.

Did anyone else notice that the headline in that paper clipping says "warning" not "warming".  What warning would be exacerbated by daylight?    ;/

But seriously, they sound like great critters.  You just might wanna keep 'em out the bedroom at times like this.

And speaking of pets where has LadySmith been lately?

A bit of trivia regarding DST:

Heart attacks, typically occur more frequently on Mondays.
When clocks are set back in the fall season, heart attacks that following Monday drop 6%.
Likewise, clocks moved forward in the spring, heart attacks the following Monday increase 6%.

Traffic crashes and fatalities significantly drop, due to the extra hour of light that one has to drive home in the afternoon hours.

While moving one's clock may seem inconvenient to many of us, the inception has been around much longer than legislated in 1918.
Benjamin Franklin is generally credited for the modern concept of DST, but the Romans adjusted their water clocks in the summertime to account for the extra hour of daylight.

I can live with it when it's set for appropriate months, but getting up at 0530 in October is freakin' hell for me. My body is pretty tuned to sunrise. If we're gonna have it, it should be May-Sep.

Incommunicado for various reasons. She said she'll be back though.

We HATESES it, doesn't we precious?

Never fails. Set my clock back last night when I got home, but apparently set the alarm time for p.m. Didn't catch it, until the phone rang this morning. El Jefe on the line, asking me if I cared to come in today... :police: :O

He was being playfully sarcastic I hope...

Then again, maybe not. One of our big production environments is down, vendor updates hosed the machine. More DST related nonsense.

I just don't understand why, when we've been saving daylight all spring-summer-fall, that we can't use some of that daylight now when we really need it...?

Aww, take it easy on the boy, Fistful.

We've gotten him to throttle back on the OMG/WTF and HFCS postings, so we really should leave him one token topic to get upset about.  ;)

Our youngest was born during the time change twenty years ago.  My wife thought it was terribly unfair that she had to do that hour again.

Goofed and got to church an hour early.

Gave us an excuse to worship the Great Big Red Neon Circle of Doom and have doughnuts, milk, & coffee at Krispy Kreme to while away the hour until church started.

When you have kids, DST is a burden.
