So, anyone read HR 1022?
« on: November 06, 2008, 03:16:44 PM »
HR 1022 is a pending bill that would re-enact the AWB.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1022

It appears to be the same as last time, but with no end dates.  Also, it has increased penalty provisions for dealing in large capacity ammunition devices.  The bill, as I read it, doesn't define what a large capacity magazine device is.  Maybe a 10 round limit like last time, but I didn't see the definition of the term.

Friends say that with a Dem. controlled Congress, this will fly to Obama's desk in short order, and he'll sign off in a heartbeat.

Guess I should shop for mags now, huh?

Good luck finding any. AR mags are backordered at most online retailers.

See if you can buy your mags locally for a decent price when it comes to common mags like AR, AK and Glock mags if you can't get them online.

That bill was for a 10 year exstension.

It will be a dead bill by the time Obama takes office
just like her H.R. 1312 and H.R. 2038.

It's the next one we will have to worry about.

HR 1022, anybody find the irony in the name?, is still around? I remember reading about it a long time ago.

H.R. 1022 went into committee. It dies with the 110th Congress.
It will get reintroduced as a new bill in 2009 since McCarthy got reelected.
She does have a better chance of the next one getting past committee.

Search you tube for her and you will see she doesn't even know what she is banning.

Which members of the committee are changing?

I don't know what the whole subcommittee will look like.
But one Republican lost his race.

Take a look at H.R. 6257.
Yes those are all Republicans on the sponsor list.

It would be political suicide for anyone to try any sort of gun-banning at this time. After Heller was argued and won, the Dems don't have a leg to stand on, and they know it. I'm not saying McCarthy won't be stupid enough to try it again, (she will) just don't expect it to go very far.

The Brady campaign called the Heller ruling a victory. It will not be fun times ahead, we must not be lulled into a false sense of security because of it.

After Heller was argued and won, the Dems don't have a leg to stand on, and they know it.

You're making the assumption that the Legislature ponders the Constitutionality of the laws they debate (they don't) and making the mistake that they read, understood, and give a rats behind what's in Heller (they didn't, can't, and don't, respectively).

Heller won't affect the actions of the Legislature at all.  They'll continue on their merry way however they see fit.  I don't think they'll do anything as stupid as enact another AWB, but if they did Heller isn't much of a comfort either.

It took 32 years to get DC's handgun law overturned.  Chicago's is still on the books but being challenged.  The courts move slow and going from a .38SPL revolver in Heller to an AR-15 in another AWB is a big leap, and I'm not sure the courts are going to side with us that quick on the issue.  Well, aside from Scalia. :)

That's a very naive thought. Heller allows "reasonable" restrictions. You know, like Chicago? Once Obama gets all FDR and packs the courts good luck getting anything aside from a complete and total ban called "unreasonable."
