It is now snowing down here on the Gulf Coast of Texas.  All you guys who call this hell can now buy your lotto tickets and watch out for falling pig crap.  I guess it ain't quite frozen over yet though.

IMO, the heat is something you can get used to, but if you just visit for a short time, I can see it being miserable.  If you spend any time out in that heat away from A/C, you get pretty accustomed to it.  It may take a little time though.  My Dad worked outdoors most of his life.  He said the yankees that came down to work would be miserable that first summer but better acclimated by the 2nd.  I guess it takes a few months sometimes.

I just noticed that on the radar.  When it's snowing on the coast south of Houston, hell has probably already frozen over.

I don't mind working outdoors when it's hot.  It does reduce that amount physical work that can be done, but otherwise isn't too bad.  What I hate is trying to look decent in a suit and tie when it's around 100 and humid - where you can stand perfectly still in the shade (or a poorly air-conditioned building) and look like you just dug a ditch.

We got five inches in Minneapolis on Monday night. It's still here and will be until May. I've been driving the Jeep 4x4 the last few days in and out of four wheel drive. The side streets are plowed, but snow covered. The first few snowfalls bring out the stupid in drivers. Lots of crashes and accidents.

It was five degress above zero this morning. That's the temp, not the windchill.

More snow will come on Sunday.

I am going to spend my winters in Texas when I retire.

=) Hadn't thought of this in a while. Thanks for reminding me.

When I worked at the Atlanta zoo several years ago I chatted with a man from Michigan (IIRC) one August day. It was hot as the Devil's doorpost and he said it didn't bother him to be out in it for a few hours but wondered how I dealt with it all day. (A liter-and-a-half bottle in an insulated carrier and frequent refills, that's how. Anyhoo...) In amongst the chat about the heat, he said he had moved South fifteen years before and had zero desire to move back, and used almost exactly the same words as you did to explain why.

Egh...

Please, I grew up in Illinois where we have REAL winters. I'd MUCH rather be in -25 than in 100+. It's really simple: in the winter, I can keep putting clothes on- I'm rarely cold.

In the summer, I can only take off so many clothes... and even if I went beyond decency, I'd still be miserable (as, no doubt, would everyone around me)

I'm happy for you.

whatever ;/

I lived there for 10 years.  Acclimatization didn't do much for me.

So what the heck is up with us just getting ice and rain and ice and cold and ice and ice and rain and ice?

I want some farking snow goshdarnit.

(So that when my in-laws make their holiday visit they can't see the grass that grew all up in through the wood chipped play area they helped us put in this summer)

I love snow, as do my dogs.  We only got about 6 inches this week, but when you get 54 inches in about 48 hours, watch what this dog does:   =D

When my lab was around 2 years old we got 37" of snow over a couple weeks in December and she acted very similar to that dog, except in wetter heavier Midwest snow. I remember pheasant hunting with her when she was three after a 12" snowfall watching her diving under the snow covered folded over reed's canary grass and pushing out birds as she squirted out the other side.

Now that she is almost 10 doesn't quite act the same when we get deep snow.

Lots of power outages that way.  He's around Nashua, right?

A friend in Exeter is without power, but he's running a generator for essentials.

Snowed today in Reno, first one of the season.  Not much yet, but it's early for us.  We will get about a foot or two off and on all winter.

Blizzard here today.

Supposed to be down to about -20 degF by tomorrow.
