High Schoolers Accused Of Sending Naked Pictures To Each Other

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 – updated: 5:44 pm EST January 13, 2009
GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Three teenage girls who allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves, and three male classmates in a Greensburg Salem High School who received them, are charged with child pornography.

Police said the girls are 14 or 15, and the boys charged with receiving the photos are 16 or 17. None are being identified because most criminal cases in Pennsylvania juvenile courts are not public.

"It was a self portrait taken of a juvenile female taking pictures of her body, nude," said Capt. George Seranko of the Greensburg Police Department.

Police said school officials learned of the photos in October. That's when a student was seen using a cell phone during school hours, which violates school rules. The phone was seized, and the photos were found on it, police said. When police investigated, other phones with more pictures were seized.

"Taking nude pictures of yourself, nothing good can come out of it," said Seranko.

The Greensburg Salem School District issued a statement on Tuesday saying there was “no evidence of inappropriate activity on school grounds or during the school day other than the violation of the (school's) electronic devices policy.”

The school district said it only became aware of the arrest of the students on Monday and will continue to work cooperatively with police, as well as continue to enforce its electronic devices policy and educate students on the dangers of inappropriate use of electronic devices.

Police said the girls are being charged with manufacturing, disseminating or possessing child pornography while the boys face charges of possession.

"It's very dangerous," said Seranko. "Once it's on a cell phone, that cell phone can be put on the Internet where everyone in the world can get access to that juvenile picture. You don't realize what you are doing until it's already done."

So, what will conviction actually do? I heard that when you do something at this age, you don't actually go on the sex offender registry - do you?

Also, under law in that location, do prosecutors HAVE to file charges, or can they do the selective law enforcement dance?

So the teacher thought they would just have a little peek at the data stored on the student's phone? Nosy bastard.

Chances are very good that the boys will go on the sex offender registry if they are convicted, which will completely screw their lives.

I pray that there's a sensible judge out there.

So the boys received nude pictures of girls they've probably had sex with...but having the nude photo is a felony crime.  Those kids need to learn some serious lessons...but not from a child porno charge in the court system.

Somehow the sex offender registry came up on Elliot in the Morning a couple weeks ago.  One caller shared the fact that he, a University of Maryland MBA with a 3.4 GPA, was on the list because he got busted for urinating on a bush at a graduation party.  There were no kids around, it was after midnight, and he was on the side of the house.  Because he's on the sex offender registry, he hasn't been able to find work using his degree.  While anyone would dismiss the crime after hearing his story, most folks don't take the time to hear his side.  They see "convicted sex offender", assume the worst, and toss the application.

They also heard from a few girls who were also on the list for urinating in public.

This is exactly the problem with these registries.

He wouldn't have been the first to be placed on the registry for urinating in public, that much is pretty well known.  The only part that might be in question is his educational status, though nothing about his manner of speech or attitude suggested otherwise.

The teacher should be prosecuted for "receiving child pornography"

Isn't that what 'peeing in public' is now called for lawyer-speak?

THIS.  If these kids get put on the sex offender list, I believe this will actually turn them into worse people, maybe even real criminals.  The only thing they will learn from this is that the people who are supposed to guide them have no clue what they are talking about.  They will learn that the system that is supposed to help society is broken beyond repair, and it wouldn't surprise me if they lashed out at it as a direct result of their conviction.

This case needs to be completely tossed out and every paper concerning it shredded and burned.  The judge needs to tell the parents to do their jobs, then forget this case ever appeared in front of his court.

Um...What?

I love that show. He does a great job getting human trash out of circulation before it can actually molest a kid.

The people he nails aren't accidental, they had graphic conversations with what they thought was a kid, and they usually drive hundreds of miles to "be with them" and have everything from condoms to sex toys with them.

One even got up and advanced on the girl as if to assault her, the police had to tazer him.

My only regret is that the pedophiles, once convicted, can't be executed. Or, rather, deleted.

That show is despicable.

For one glowing reason. He stretches the definition of 'pedophile trash' to 'anybody to whom the age of consent laws would apply in the jurisdiction that my show is filmed in'.

I watched precisely one episode of this and realized it wasn't the show for me. It was the one where he invited a guy to a random house where a 17-year-old was supposedly waiting. A 17-year-old, I will repeat. Not exactly pedophile-fodder. And when the supposed despicable pervert arrived, he made a grand show of having him apprehended by multiple cops who acted as if they were tackling Jason Voorheese.

The guy made a multimillion-dollar career out of people who enjoy seeing 'the scum of society' stepped on, and stretched the definition as far as it would go so he could have more subjects for his show.

And then he riles up public hatred for these people as if they were real pedophiles.

And not only does this show do that, it also pumps up the public paranoiah about 'a pervert behind every tree and in every public bathroom stall'.

That's creepy. That's almost as creepy as actual, real pedophiles.

What?

A single episode where something incredibly creepy is done by the show creator, which he does IRL rather than in fiction, is enough. It's not like it's a work of art or anything.

The guy really invited a random fellow into a house for a 'date with a 17-year-old' and had him arrested, so that he could pump the event for ad money.
