Word 2007, or whatever it's called
« on: March 07, 2009, 04:59:35 PM »
On my ancient machine here at home, I have whatever version of Word would have been current back in 2002.

The computers at school have some newer thing, Word 2007, I think.

WHY AIN'T IT GOT NO UNDO BUTTON?

Might not have been added.  You can right click on the button bar and select customize to add it.

Or you can just right click in your document and select undo.

Yeah, the first one sounds kinda obvious.  [Boy am I dumb smiley]

The funny thing is, Brad, I don't think it even has an edit button.   :O

I am not an MS person but I read that the keyboard shortcuts are unchanged, so remember what was used on 2002 and use it there as well.

The funny thing is, Brad, I don't think it even has an edit button.   :O

I was talking about the command from the Menu Bar.

I have Word 2002.  The menu bar should read:
File  Edit  View  Insert  Format  Tools  Table  Window  Help

Go to Edit.  Undo should be the first command on the drop-down list.

The Undo command is on the Standard menu bar.  Right click on the Menu Bar and make sure the Standard box is checked.  It should be the first selection on the list.

If it's not there and you want to it, adding it to the Command bar is pretty simple.  Start by right clicking somewhere on the Command Bar.  In the list that pops up go down to Customize.  In the box that pops up you should see two fields, with the left labeled Category.  In the Category box click on Edit.  It should pop up a list on the right and the first selection should be Undo.

Brad, I am talking about 2007.  I remember looking up on the top menu bar, and seeing no "Edit" listed.  Then again, I am half-mad and very forgetful.

It's up there...

I hate Word '07 with a passion. Particularly since I had to take a really crappy computer course on it for college.

Right up at the top, next to the windows logo thingy, there should be 3 symbols by default. They are Save, Undo, and Repeat. If not there you can add them by going to Word options-Customize

PS- Word 2007 sucks rocks.

Office 07 sucks.  The controls are all like a bad video game.

Keep in Mind that Microsoft programs now default to showing you partial menues. They only display those commands you most recently used. If you haven't done anything recently, they show you jack. Somewhere in "Tools - Options" or "Tools - Customize" there is a way to turn off that nonsense and have it just show you the complete menues, first time, every time.

The new Office 2007 line has done away with the top-level File, Edit, View, Tools, etc. menu items.  It's a totally new designed called the Ribbon:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribbon_(computing)

It takes a while to get used to, but I'm warming up to the idea.

It does have an undo button.

You just have to look really hard to find it....

Going from 2003 to 2007 you have to look hard to find everything.

I wish I could figure out how to insert a screen capture pic in here.

As I said, the default is for undo to be in the upper left portion of the screen. There will be a windows logo, a disc logo(save), then the undo, then redo.

If it's not there, left click the windows logo, choose "word options", then "customize". You can add it there.

All of Office is that way. Powerpoint's "start slideshow" button was at the bottom left for...ten years, or longer.

So they moved it to the right.

Apparently, if MS made a car, the new model would have the speedometer on the left, fuel gauge under the stereo, and the shifter on the ceiling.

That's the problem with MS in general.  They move controls on what seems like a whim.  For example, the button to clear the most recently used documents feature of the start menu went from easy to find and use as recently as Win2k to buried under multiple menus with WinXP.  I can't figure out why they moved it or why it's buried so deep.

Personally, I think the basic underlying technology of recent Windows versions isn't too bad, but they keep mucking with the gui destroying any continuity.  Thank God for "Classic Windows" support in the gui settings.  I'd open a vein if I had to stare at XP's default gui and go on a suicidal rampage if forced to use Vista's default.
