Papers alter Israel cabinet photo

Two ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspapers have altered a photo of Israel's new cabinet, removing two female ministers.

Limor Livnat $and Sofa Landver were grouped with the rest of the 30-member cabinet for their inaugural photo.

But Yated Neeman newspaper digitally changed the picture by replacing them with two men. The Shaa Tova newspaper blacked the women out.

Publishing pictures of women is viewed by many ultra-orthodox Jews as a violation of female modesty.

Other Israeli papers reprinted the altered images next to the original photos, with one headlining it "Find the lady".

The ultra-Orthodox community separates itself from mainstream society through its traditional religious practices and distinctive attire of black hats, coats and sidelocks for the men and long skirts and sleeves for the women.

Restrictions include using only Kosher telephones, and not accessing websites with content deemed inappropriate.

But who are those men?  Have they found permanent employment as male stand-ins for photographs of female cabinet ministers?

If so, is this the most ingenious job creation scheme of this current recessionary period?

Yes, there are!

My guess would be a rabbi would have had to bless the phone for it to be kosher. Just a guess.

You forgot to include Christianity in there.
All three have some really messed up social restrictions.  Heck look at FLDS and others like it.

My Google Fu says it is a phone that has certain numbers and web sites blocked (or internet access disabled altogether) to eliminate any temptations that might conflict with beliefs.  It also has to be given the go-ahead by a council of rabbis.

The whole idea of blaming objects for a personal moral failure is just foreign to me.  Oh well.

The main question I have on this is why they bothered to print the photo at all?  Why even include it?  If you have to, just put up a bunch of stock photos of the guys involved.

Also, by substituting the men in there, aren't they lying?  Is that not something considered bad also?

They didn't "lie". They listed the names next to the picture right, they just didn't display the correct picture.

Not that their media is in any way more truthful than the MSM media of Israel.

I know many Amish people.  While they believe in a simple life they are far from backwards.  Although I guess I am not sure what you mean when you refer to Old Order Amish.

Not sure if I'm familiar with "Old Order Amish".  I live in an area positively infested with Amish farms, schools, produce stands and farmers markets.  Sure, their dress code is strict (more or less, equally strict for men and women) and they don't use technology unless it's needed, but I haven't seen Amish stoning women or burning billboards with woman wearing immodest clothing.  Or removing their photos from Amish publications.  Granted, that may be caused by the general lack of cameras, but hey.

Heck, as an infidel, I've talked to plenty of unmarried, unescorted young Amish ladies and none of them got any punishment for doing so.  Daddy would be highly displeased if we started dating, but so would most sane fathers of women dating me.

If the names no longer matched the picture - a picture they deliberately altered - they DID lie.

Was it a kosher lie?

Can lies be kosher?

It would NOT surprise me ONE BIT if members of the council of rabbis were in the business of making and/or selling these kosher phones . . . at a nice profit.

Payoffs from the phone companies are rumored to occur. There are only 4 cell phone companies authorized by law to operate in Israel, IIRC.
