Soros isn't close to being where the Olins, Scaifes, Coors and Kochs are. They've had their fingers in the American politics for many years.
Olin was behind the funding of the rumor that the National Council of Churches and World Council of Churches were funding commies. Scaife of course paid Akansas state troopers to lie about Bill Clinton and funded the American Spectators scandal mongering.
Coors funded the highly partisan Heritage Foundation. Among other things Koch is funding the *derogatory term deleted* protests.
The difference is that none of these fellows had a Bill O'Reilly blaming the ills of the world on then night after night. It's all about advertising.

Of course I suppose it depends on whose ox is being gored.

Do it again, and you won't be here very long.

Coors funded the Heritage foundation? As in, entirely?

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

It is an appellation they gave to themselves. Just as the followers of the Rev. Moon call themselves Moonies.

I notice there doesn't seem to be the same level of umbrage here when democrats are called socialists.

Of course I'm a minority here, so the line being toed is further right than one I'd draw. So be it.

You would have equally been chided had you made a play on words with Obama's name.
You're also a new poster.  You're not going to get as much rope as someone with a few hundred posts.
Any more questions, you can PM me.

Buzzcook, look at it this way...

Some Black people call themselves the n-word. We don't.
Some White people call themselves trash. We don't.
Some women call themselves female dogs. We don't.

We do discuss socialist policies no matter if they're espoused by (D) or (R).

And you're not really a minority here. Trust me on this. ;)

Coming to a website and insulting it's members is called trolling. You might want to stop that if you enjoy posting here.

As for calling members of the democratic party "socialist" that's an accurate technical description, not a derogatory term. Deal with it.

As someone who's been to more T.E.A. Parties than you (I assume), let me assure you that attendants don't refer to themselves as "*derogatory term deleted*", despite what you may read in the Huffington Post hit-piece.

Please find and read a copy of the Socialist PArty Platform in 1932. Then please tell me how many of its positions does the modern DNC reject.

APS has a code of expression that is fairly consistently enforced.  You are free to comply.  You are also free to find a different forum that has standards of expressions more to your liking.
"Men, it has been well said, think in herds. It will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."
- Charles Mackay, Scottish journalist, circa 1841

"Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it." - John Lennon
