Where to sell handmade, collectable teddy bears?
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:18:48 AM »
My wife has a pair of handmade teddy bears that she's decided to sell.  However, the craftsman isn't well known (local artisan), so the market isn't large.  They aren't toys, so we can't sell them as such.  We're not having any luck with Craigslist or Ebay.  A website dedicated to handmade bears would be ideal, but all of the ones I've found are oriented towards selling bears to consumers, not as a place to sell your bears.

Does anyone know of a good place to sell such things?

http://www.etsy.com might be worth a shot. It's like eBay but only for hand/homemade stuff; rates are a bit lower as well.

Hell, my wife would love those bears to go with our living room fishing camp/bear motif!

Seriously?

I need to find out what my wife wants for them, but I think we paid $150 for the pair in 2002.  Obviously they've been in a smoke-free home and out of reach of Things 1&2.  In addition to what's in the picture, we have the info cards for both, and a bunch of 4x6 prints taken by the craftsman (craftswoman?) in a variety of "natural" poses.

BTW, if your wife likes bears, here's more (not as nice as the two above though): http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/clt/1299666736.html

See what she wants for them.  I'll show Mrs. G-98 the photo in the meantime.

Looked promising until I noticed the items you sell have to be made by you.  You can't resell something made by others.

With a little creative computer work you could create a Certificate.  Then list them on eBay as an official "Domestic Partners" bear set, and set a starting price of $500.  Can your wife sew little rainbow patches on their sleeves?   =D

However, I'd buy a T-shirt with your avatar on it!

lmao!!!  That would be sooo funny.

As for the T-shirt, it isn't my image, so I can't sell it.  Azredhawk44 posted it.  I know he got the image online, but I think he added the new caption.

Check the "Obama Joker" thread. IIRC I posted a link to a cafepress store where you can buy tshirts just like that.

Giggle snort.

One day I was preparing for a day shooting.  Hit the local Deseret Industries thrift (Mormon run thrift stores).  Had a cart full of stuffed animals and porcelain collectibles.  The checker asked who I was buying them for.  Me, I said, I'm taking them in the desert and shooting all of them!  Her look was priceless.
