Wow, even the Times Online and the Huffington Post are outraged by this:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6867711.ece

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-russnow/barack-obama-nobel-peace_b_314899.html

Yet our new resident socialist apologist is just loving it. (aside- Hey, we've got a socialist to go with our communist now!)

Says a lot.

I never said I approved, did I?

I would rather they had a political Nobel Prize, and a "real" Nobel Prize, personally.

But don't let my actual opinion stop you from making any assumptions.

Your actual opinion was:

I feel content just to watch this thread flame up, thanks!

You're enjoying the fact that he won the prize. While you may think he didn't deserve it, you LIKE the fact that he won it.

I have to assume that is the case since you've insisted on many occasions that you are not a troll.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Fair enough, that seems about right.

(Edit: I don't mind that he won the prize, I just wish they had also used it to highlight someone unknown as well.  The press release from the Nobel committee lays out their reasoning, and they can do whatever they want I suppose.  Obviously the committee wanted to send a message to encourage him.)

What's your motivation, Mellestad?

Contrary opinions are indeed one thing.

Stirring up a pot of foul-smelling stuff that came from the south end of a northbound bovine is quite another.

Remember that, since it appears that you're "projecting", for lack of a better term.

Honestly, I like that he got the prize.

Stick a fork in the Nobel, it was done when Gore got it for making millions off of global warming. So it's meaningless anyway as others have said.

And it now means he likely won't get another Nobel Prize for some further absurd liberal policy or unworkable foreign policy.
I promise not to duck.

I have got to stop falling asleep.  Can't shake the cobweb fast enough to make sense out of daily events.  First we bomb the moon then we give Obama the Nobel prize for . . . . .what?  Something?  Does the Onion offer a dead tree edition delivered to my doorstep?

Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and now Barack Obama have received that prize. I imagine Bill Clinton feels left out.

It seems to me that Obama's Shining Light is shining too brightly.  I think there is a good chance that it will burn out sooner, rather than later.

Just to be clear, I don't mean he will die soon.  Merely that he is doing too much too fast, while his fans want him to do more, faster.  He can't keep up the pace and expect everyone to support him.

Carter, Gore, and now Obama.  Is there a pattern here?

I am yet to figure out what peace accomplishments have been made by BHO.  Guess I could say the same thing about Gore.  I guess the socialists take care of their own.

Nah, they already have that covered, too. What was that medal the Pres (or was it the Congress?) just awarded to Ted Kennedy?

This afternoon my dog received this email from Obama. 285 words, of which 17 were "I", "me", "my", and other references to Obama.

Imagine how self-important he'd be if this weren't about him. ;)

Zach --

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama
