Climate Research Hacked...
« on: November 20, 2009, 05:05:13 PM »
Developing story.

To say the least, the fallout will be fun if it proves to be true:

http://politics.slashdot.org/story/09/11/20/1747257/Climatic-Research-Unit-Hacked-Files-Leaked

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/19/breaking-news-story-hadley-cru-has-apparently-been-hacked-hundreds-of-files-released/#more-12937

Most interesting so far:

Quote
I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from
1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual
land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land
N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999
for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with
data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.
Thanks for the comments, Ray

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

It seems to be convincing a lot of people.

1.) It was over 60Mb of data of technical files and emails, which is very hard to fake.

2.) An official from the University that owns the server admits they were hacked and data was stolen.

The quote in the OP was from an email 10yrs old, and may be missing context. I have yet to see anything posted that is particularly bad.

Holy cow, it's huge.

60 meg is the compressed size.... and it's mostly text.   :O

The excerpts I have read, even given context, are not reassuring to this data nerd.

Given that I work on a lot of gov't contracts that use taxpayer dollars, I would have been in "pound me in the ass federal prison" for colluding to keep the data unknown.

But, yeah, academics are just so much more ethical and do much more objective analysis than us tainted by working for for-profit companies.

I pulled it off the original torrent.

I've also put it up on RapidShare:

Yeah, I just saw that Bishop Hill link via Instapundit. Some of that stuff is pretty bad; as in conspiracy to lie, and conspiracy to violate Freedom of Information, bad.

Can't wait to see how it spins on all sides.

Here's the spin in the St. Louis Pravda-Dispatch.  In a nutshell, they say the bad stuff is really not all that bad, and taken out of context.  Those of you who've scanned the hacked info, what say you?

Too bad it didn't have any classified info or useful propaganda photos of dead .mil, they'd be tripping over themselves in their haste to publish it.

I predict that this will be ignored as if it never happened by the powers that be and their mindless disciples and that they will continue on the AGW lemming parade.

Swish!  3 points for the win.

Far too much money is in the balance.  Far too much power waits in the wings for implementation.  Global warming was the long sought global threat to be used to unite the nations under a global government.  There will be attempts to ignore it but is will only buy the power elites a short period of time before the backlash starts.
