Shooting feral hogs from a helo
« on: December 05, 2009, 07:25:59 PM »
Looks like a lot of fun, and they're performing a valuable service. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiHmYsyVniE

Quote
This feral hog eradication program is funded by a group of farmers who are taking progressive action to reduce the devastation done to their crops by these animals. Each and every feral hog is estimated to cause $1400 in crop damage during its lifetime. As you can see this data in combination with the extraordinarily high and ever expanding hog population proves to be a very big problem. Through the support of the farmers of Haskell Co. and the efforts of Nueces Helicopters, LLC. the hog population is on its way to a more controllable state as well as a much higher crop yield for the farmers. Shooting at anything from a helicopter makes it more fun.

we need some hog reduction around here
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

I was wondering if the local NG units need some aerial gunnery practice...

Sounds like the yote elimination program we have here, except we use a plane with a machine gun. =D

Methinks they could reconsider the weapon of choice

I assumed that's what they were using....

Considering they're doing it for profit, the cost of a mini-gun, ammo, and maintenance would probably be prohibitive.

Nice stand-off at about 4:26.  He's big enough to think he can take on anybody, but goes down like all the others.

If I bring a rifle and lots of ammo and give them money will they let me go with them?

I'd imagine they would, actually. And give the farmer a discount cause you're less experienced.

That looks like a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  I wonder if they'd let me use my M1 Carbine?  I've got some 30 round mags for it.  110 grains at 1800 fps should work okay, wouldn't you think?
I'd use my Garand, but that might be a little much from the cockpit.

This reminds me of all the farmers back in Ohio that would pay me to remove problem animals. Remove them from life, not their land, mind you.  =D

Nothing like hitting a rock chuck with a .500 S&W Magnum out of a rifle...

In any case, shooting wild hogs from a helicopter sounds wildly fun - seems like a job for a good semi-auto .460 Rowland rifle.

Sounds about right.
Where is this taking place?  Looks to be sort of midwestern.
Looks like Texas.
Man, all the fun stuff happens in Texas. =\

What... what happened at 5:40?  Almost like the hog pulled something like what I do in AirSoft--"Oh, I'm hit? Ah, dang." *thump*

Looks like a whole lot of fun.  I might be inclined to use a 12ga with a low recoil 00 Buck though.  But, 223 is a whole lot lighter round for round.
