Parallels between music and shooting
« on: January 16, 2006, 02:07:43 PM »
I think I've hit the major points here:

1) The "you get what you pay for" principle applies to both (guns and instruments)

2) Shopping for a musical instrument is just like shopping for a gun; there can be tons of variation between two different instruments of the same type, model, and manufacturer

3) Both involve quite a bit of theory or "on paper" principles that may seem unnecessary at first but later become extremely important

4) Both involve lots of dexterity and concentration

5) You can pursue both for a lifetime and still have room for improvement

A good musician can make a bad instrument sound good while a bad musician can make a good instrument sound bad. Same for shootin'...

Both cost me an aweful lot of money.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Well...

-  Both disciplines require discipline (one can't be highly strung);

-  To reach the top in either is a noteworthy achievement;

-  What caliber for arpeggio's?

My banjo playing and shooting are best enjoyed with doubled-up hearing protection.

Figuring lighter is better, I'd say .17 HMR...
