Day One ...
« on: March 23, 2010, 10:28:15 PM »
DW just got back from the local school where she teaches a couple Adult Education classes, and she talked to the Superintendant/principal who just got back from Helena:

1) Health insurances premiums are going up 30%

2) The Feds are cutting back the money they give to the schools, to use that money to pay for "healthcare". (aren't you glad they passed the bill so now we can start finding out what it says?  ;/ ) The district will have to take that out of the retirement funds to start with, but they will probably have to close one or both schools in the county.  Trouble is, there's a law that kids can't be bused more than an hour each way.

Some "change" but no "hope" at all.  Lots of angry people, though

No, didn't I just say that my wife talked to the school superintendent an hour ago ?  ;/

I just wish the Zombie Apocalypse would finally arrive.  It's the better alternative.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

And those Chtulu '08: Why choose the lesser of two evils? bumper stickers don't seem so far-fetched anymore; just inaccurate.

Mark Steyn wrote an interesting article in NRO about whether America will decline, and if so, what form the decline might take.  Read the article here.
He quoted Arnold Toynbee at the end: “Civilizations die from suicide, not from murder.”  That seemed quite appropriate.

Quote from: Abraham Lincoln, Speech to the Young Men’s Lyceum of Springfield, IL 1838
Whence shall we expect the approach of danger?  Shall some trans-Atlantic giant step the earth and crush us at a blow?  Never.  All the armies of Europe and Asia could not take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years.  If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher.  As a nation of free men we will live forever, or die by suicide.

I will try to talk to the guy tomorrow (thursday evening) and get the story straight.  He is usually in his office working late.

Something I NEVER thought I'd see.

Looking through Digg comments today...

http://digg.com/business_finance/Health_Care_or_No_Health_Care_13_Tax_Changes_Are_On_The_Way

I went through the first 50 or so. Every. Single. One. Negative.

Where were these people when the debate was going on?

Digg has always been an extremely liberal/left website, interesting to see them trashing the bill.
One thing I've noticed that was odd, was around the time Ron Paul was gaining momentum, all of 4chan was in love with him.  Now they're all praising the bill as amazing.
Protip:  They were hitting a lot of public opinion polls on news sites recently, skewing the results to be more in favor of the bill.
Strange how tunes change.

It's also interesting to see some information on the Enlightened European Socialist countries hiring processes and how an American businessman pretty much mirrored it naturally.

Yet more proof politicians can not be trusted even if they do support your pet issue.
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.
I meet lots of folks like this, claim to be anarchist but really they're just liberals with pierced genitals. - gunsmith

I've always been astounded at otherwise conservative gun owners supporting Dingell just because he is less anti than your normal (D)  When someone is 95% bad as opposed to 100%, it's still unreasonable to support them just for the 5%.
