What's your age group, by the way?

At 33, I identify less with my generational cohort, and more with others like myself, too smart to pay for TV.   :P
I haven't seen any broadcast/cable TV in years.  I still know what Cowboy Beebop is.

The best part of Cowboy Beebop is the music.  Anyone know who the musical genius is behind that stuff?

The music was great.  Especially the jazzy theme at the beginning of the show and the bluesy song at the end.  Some episodes the singer sang it in English, and some episodes in what I assume was Japanese.

According to IMDB, a Yôko Kanno did the "Series Original Music."

The music was written by Yoko Kano and performed by her band, The Seatbelts.

They got a lot of stuff on Youtube, most of it live.

Opening credits and theme music from Cowboy Bebop.  Even has guns.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ4NcE

Closing credits and theme music, The Real Folk Blues:

Puts to shame almost all Hollywood tv music.

Mai Yamane is the singer of Blues.

And here’s the video of the singer and her band singing The Real Folk Blues

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD83P-vn5JI

Lyrics (scroll down below the video).  I couldn’t find a youtube video where the lyrics are sung in English, so you’ll just have to sing along yourself.

And one more.

This is Yoko Kanno, the composer, performing Tank, which is the opening theme music from Bebop.

I believe Ms. Kanno is the female keyboard player wearing the red leather coat.

Heh.  Turns out my wife has a 4 CD collection of Yoko Kano and the Seatbelts.  Some of the songs from the album were used in Cowboy Beebop, but most of it is new and not form the show.  Every bit of it is as good as the CB stuff.

I've been listening to it nonstop for a coupla days.

Cowboy Bebop, that is anime.  Nobody with good personal hygiene is likely to be familiar with it.

Are we talkin Cowboy Bebop or anime in general  because I have great personal hygiene and I've been watching anime for as long as I can remember.  =D

edit too add: Firefly both the series and Serenity the movie are epic I've watched them both multiple times.

I also watch anime, and read quite a lot of manga.
Is good stuff.
Better than the stuff around here for the most part.  I do enjoy Justified though.

also did anime, and fall in the correct age grouping, but as a female i could get into some other things.

CHECK OUT Noire if you like guns and the typical anime obsession with tiny female assasins. *grin* and gunslinger girl (dads comment was at one time he HAD a gunslinger girl  )

Bebop, sailor moon, trigun, ranma 1/2 and a few others are just standard. you don't have to have really watched them, but you generally know what they are and whats the deal with it. and it seems to be "cool" to at least have one or two anime/manga series per person.

the unhygenic ones these days are the guys who watch nothing BUT anime and, well, you know what.  [barf]

I've watched Black Lagoon but not read it.  It's on the list.  I couldn't really get into Noir or Gunslinger Girl, for some reason.  Maybe I'll try again.
I just caught up to the latest issue of Fullmetal Alchemist.  It's pretty epic.

Bluestar trigun is epic and the only one I've ever rely watched out of your list. Gunslinger girl's is good too I've read maybe 1 0r 2 of the mangas it's not some thing I will go looking for but if I am out and can't find any of the usual I wouldn't hesitate to pick up where I left off. Also Mabs Fullmetal Alchemist is a good one I've not read or watched in awhile thanks for bringing it up I'm gonna have too get back into it. ;)

You're confusing anime watchers with gamers.
Final Fantasy is a video game, and is loved by mostly "ordinary people."
Personally, I never got into the games.  Pretty boring imo.

I have been dragged to a couple comic/anime cons.  Poor personal hygiene was the uniform of the day, it seemed.

Cons are a whole different beast.
No matter what the convention is for, expect to meet the worst examples of a particular group of fans.

True.  However, there's a reason the 5-2-1 posters ("You will have a minimum of: 5 hours sleep; 2 meals; 1 shower; in every 24 hour period") prominently around the gaming floor at DragonCon - and nowhere else.

I will certainly grant that the Right-Guard Girl was doing banner business spraying people on the main con floor...
