If you have a server on your network, but do not have an IT person or check your backups do not ignore the flashy orange lights on your server.
A new customer we signed on Fridaybut had not started with management yet called and said none of their data was available. Sent a tech onsite and 2 of the 5 disks in the RAID 5 array had failed. Reseating and forcing disks online did not help. When queried further, "Oh yeah.. that second disk from the bottom has been blinking orange for a couple of years now but we didn't think anything of it"
Backups? Nope. Offline files maybe on a workstation? Nope. They are going to lose their exchange database, CRM database, quickbooks, files, and who knows what else unless they get really lucky.
Doh!
The options now get much more expensive and have a lesser chance of complete success!
