So I'm watching The Fisher King again.
Robin Williams plays Parry aka Henry Sagan, a man who lost his sanity when a mentally tortured person comes into a bar and blows many people away with a shotgun, including the love of his life.
He is just removed enough from reality to keep him from dealing with his pain.
Life has dealt him blows that have rendered him just unable to cope.
He has become homeless, hopeless, disconnected.
Jeff Bridges is destroyed as well, since he was the shock jock who blew off the very guy who blew away the lives of the people in the bar. He finds himself about to be immolated by bum-haters, and is covered in gasoline, when Parry comes and saves him.
He tries to pay off Parry with money, but that has no value to Parry and he reluctantly winds up trying to help Parry in the way he most needs it, with friendship.
It's a strange movie; it's insanity couched in an insane premise of insanity.
It makes perfect sense to me...which really scares me.
Am I insane? Do I dare even ask that question?
