And NOVA is somewhat high-density urban, so it's do-able without a car. Especially in Arlington/Fairfax counties, with the Metro etc.
I wouldn't go quite that far. Yes, if you live in the right place, you can get by without a car, but it won't be easy. If you want to live car-free, DC is your best bet.
OTOH, rents are INSANE. I've got family there, as can the other APS'ers from the area tell you.
Renting is getting better now that home values are crashing. Back in 2001, I went from renting an apartment to buying a home because rents had risen past what it would cost me to buy a townhouse 3x the size of my apartment. That was before calculating in the mortgage interest deduction.

I've sent my resume to a few places and had a ride-along/interview with a company out of Vienna earlier this week. Nothing else back from them so far.
I've gone to school for and have done residential and commercial HVACR for over 4 years now.
I don't know if they're hiring or not, but have you checked with Woody's Sudden Service in Manassas? If nothing else, getting to "the office" in the morning would be simpler for you. They replaced our furnace and AC last year and did a good job.
