Coen brothers remaking "True Grit"

I'm rather undecided about this, being quite fond of the John Wayne flick.

Okay, that was...odd.  If it wasn't a remake, it might have struck me as interesting.  Has there ever been a successful remake of a movie starring The Duke?
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Technically it is supposed to be closer to the book than the Duke's version was.  Darker.

As long as it is different enough from the older movie that I am not constantly reminded of it or comparing it, It might turn out to be pretty good to watch.

Well Mech, there may be some hope of that, as it's not a remake of the earlier movie, but a new adaptation of the book.

Call it what you will, remake, reintrepretation...
The real question is when was the last time an even partly original idea came out of hollywierd?

Never seen the original.  So maybe I'll be able watch and enjoy this.  But, it has Brad Pitt.  So that reduces the odds of enjoyment.

Why?  Is there not one person in the film industry that can come up with an original idea?  Why all the damn remakes?

I'll pass seeing this. And I'll be pissed if they try to remake "Big Jake" or "The Shootist". P

There is no Brad Pitt in this movie, or at least I don't see any mention of it.

The John Wayne version was not terribly original; it was based on a novel. As this one is from the Coens, it will probably be better. Then again I'm partial, because the girl in the trailer looks like my friend, Heather, who really does have "grit."

Besides, how would Brad Pitt be a negative?  ???

Is he the one playing the Texas Ranger?  I'm pretty sure I don't like him trying to represent Texas.  They should have made him one of the bad guys that gets killed.

I'm drawing a blank:  What was the Western remake a year or two ago about the farmer/rancher who volunteered to escort a prisoner to get the reward for his family?   The name is escaping me.

IMO, that was a movie that was so like the original that I was constantly comparing the two.  I found I liked the original much better.

That's Matt Damon, of the "Bourne" series, "Good Will Hunting", and he was Private Ryan.

Thank God....y'all had me worried for a moment....

Is Josh Brolin still playing the bad guy?....

My bad.  Matt Damon is better than Brad Pitt.  'Course that's damning with faint praise.  Maybe I will bother to watch it afterall.

OK, I just have to know. What is so bad about Brad Pitt? I mean, other than consorting with A-Jo, which probably indicates some serious issues, why would anyone dislike him as an actor?
