Rabe and her colleague Leila Samson wanted to see how sexy anchors affect men's ability to retain the actual news, so they devised an experiment in which they asked hundreds of them to watch the same 24-year-old anchor deliver a broadcast twice -- once dressed in modest attire and another time in something more revealing, complete with jewelry, makeup and cleavage.

The study, published online in the journal Communication Research, found that men were more likely to closely watch the sexy anchors but less likely to remember what they said. So networks that hire attractive news anchors may get higher ratings but have less-informed male viewers as a result.

I am certainly glad this study was done. Otherwise I would never have known why I get nothing out of watching the news. Here I thought it was just that the news reported nothing worth hearing. Now I know it was that the news anchor lady was just too good looking and well dressed. It is all my fault. Of course, it is a primal and instinctive response so I am clearly not to blame for my "condition".

They need to start a new 24 hour news network that is dedicated to having no well dressed or good looking anchors to make sure the real news is communicated effectively. I'm sure the ratings will be great since everyone really wants to hear the news and know what is going on in the world (according to the news reporters).

My dad gets irritated because he resents the manipulation of getting us to stare instead of listen. Anyway, he's old.

Gretchen Carlson not bad but still no E.D. Hill in knee high boots. Can't remember the chick they had on Fox News new year's coverage but she had the whole store front on display.

That's pretty much what FNC needs to do is get Robin Meade and Betty Nguyen to defect, CNN would implode.

Maybe they should have done the study to determine how sensational the news has to be to distract men from admiring attractive women? It seems that it doesn't, but they need to make sure.

Gretchen is easy on my eyes for me because she is pretty but not too pretty. She has the girl next door appeal for me.
