I have the next three days off, have no plans ,and I'm home alone (if you leave out the pack of animals roaming the house)....which is nearly unheard of.
I just completed months of mind numbing (and questionably valuable) tasks at work.  And they were on time, even if the relevance of the time- lines were a product of vivid imaginations.
Anyway...I'd like to drink a little...and more importantly, try something different from the three things I tend to drink (when I drink) - beer, vodka, or Crown.  
What would you recommend for a long weekend that is 1) different, but not disgusting 2) classy, but not too expensive 3) heavy, but not a sledge hammer. 4) available in most urban areas.

Jose Cuervo 1800 sipped slowly without all the girly salt and lemon ritualistic baloney.  I suppose a cold beer of your choice chaser couldn't hurt. Just be gentle with it. ;)

Gins and tonic.
Lime.
Ice.

1pt gin - 2 pts tonic then adjust to taste or pace.

It's been a long time, but as I recall Tanqueray was decent, pretty clean, and left a clearer head than lower shelf brands.

I do like both of those. It's cold and rainy here, so gin and tonic just isn't sounding too good right now.  I usually keep a supply of 1800 around, but ran out sometime in the Fall.  I'll put it on my shopping list, although I would like to try something a little different.

I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

Do you like wine? A bottle of Kendall Jackson can go good with many things. Or a Chateau Ste Michelle.

Maybe try a few different whiskeys.

Or try some new high-alcohol microbrews (there are some nice American pale ales and IPA's that are over 7% ABV -- some go up to 11.5%) or Belgian ales.

I do like wine...better than it likes me. But I do like most Reds.  Port also sounds kinda good right now.
I always wanted to like scotch, and I've tried a few, but have to admit, I really don't care for it...too smoky.
Can't go wrong with Ky Bourbons...will add one of those mentioned above to my browsing list.
Got the 30 pack of PBR already covered.  Can't afford a Hooker...or at least one with teeth, an address, and no terminal diseases.  Too old, slow, and disinterested to play games.

Rye based whiskey is a nice little treat.  Not as smooth as corn based, IMHO, but different.

You could grab a mojito recipe and switch out the rum with tequila.  Wife and I do that.  It's good.

Ummm Belgian Ale.  I think I am the Central Ohio market for VanSteenberge.
We have a general store chain here called Andersons that has a great selection of beers.

Pyrat rum, neat.

Red Breast Irish whiskey on the rocks.

A VSOP brandy, neat.

Glenlivet or Glenfiddich single malt scotch on the rocks.

American Honey (wild turkey and honey) mixed 50/50 with Jameson Irish whiskey, on the rocks or neat.

Scotch was always a little too much like drinking dirt for me. I'm sure I've had a few good ones but I had had too much else to really enjoy it.

I also know an Italian wine that I just love but can't remember the name of it right now. I had several bottles of it when I was in Gran Caymen.  I wonder Why I can't remember. =D

Maybe all the rum?

I am primarily a rum and gin drinker but was recently gifted a bottle of Templeton Rye ( A "Prohibition Era Whiskey") and man oh man is it good. If you can locate any it's $40-$50 a bottle and I believe that it tastes better and costs less than many fine liquors at twice the price. If you want to treat yourself I highly recommend it.

Gin and tonic is my libation of choice for long evenings of entertaining, whether I'm just entertaining myself or with guests. Bombay Sapphire remains my gin of choice. Mixed over ice with tonic and the juice of a true key lime there's nothing finer. They are a great value as a tall drink too. Boodle's gin is a good substitute for a lower price.

Pyrat rum is actually one of the few premium varieties I didn't care for at all. It's different enough that I suggest anyone to buy a glass of it before committing to a bottle. My bottle tasted distinctly of overripe citrus fruits and the slight odor of stomach acid.

Red Stag and coke (I personally prefer Pepsi) is very nice.  Or without the coke/pepsi.  However, drinking it straight out the bottle while lying on the floor in your underwear is frowned upon.....  ;)

Laphroag is another good example of this variety.  Heck, get one of each of the archetypes, Islay, Speyside, Highland, Lowland... might as well do the whole country while you're at it.

I think Bombay Sapphire is too good for tonic, and is better mated with a splash of vermouth.  Regular Bombay is good enough for me for tonic.  I prefer a dash of Angostura over lime.

Elijah Craig is a good mid-range bourbon if you don't want to spend more than $30/bottle.
