Get a haircut.

I had a haircut just the other day, I liked the affect so much I had the lady cut all of them.

I finally saw motorhead for the first time this year, I even got a cool shirt. I had no idea what he was saying and only recognized the last three songs.

Were they better in the 70's?  Because seriously...  that was awful.  Maybe you have to have been a fan from the start or something?

I guess there is no accounting for different musical tastes eh?

Type in "And You and I" and listen to something else.

Wow, a Gaga thread saved by a Yes reference.  Thanks for that.  Pepped up my morning a lot.  I haven't put that CD in the truck in a while.

I like Yes, but I don't think I ever put much significance to the lyrics.  I always like Steve Howe's guitar work and the strong bass presence in many of their songs.  The only album I ever really paid close attention to the lyrics was Going for the One.  I have been listening to the Drama album a lot lately.  After listening to a lot of more current stuff, Drama was a breath of fresh air with well made songs and good bass play.

Here is the 3rd song on the Drama album.  Lots of good bass play and such at beginning and end.  I never paid much attention to the lyrics so I have no idea on that.  Nice base line at the end.

IMO, Yes has a unique style that takes some getting used to if you never heard it before.  It is certainly not for everyone.

I don't know about the 70's.  I was born in that decade.  I started listening to Yes a while later.

So, guys, the Edge of Glory video came out yesterday.

Critics are mixed. Some say it's boring, some say it's refreshingly simple.

I'm also mixed up. It's not as "involved" as many of her other videos, but it is clean-cut and the song is fantastic.

I requested it twice on the radio yesterday.

It sort of complicates matters, though.

Perhaps it symbolizes her homecoming?

Maybe the progression is:
The Fame: corrupted by fame and wealth, leaves home
The Fame Monster: Search for true self and inner beauty
Born This Way: realization of self, return to home and cultural roots

What do you guys think? Have you seen the Edge of Glory video?

Hey guys, I'm trying to have a serious examination here.

I find on many forums people turn these types of threads into a big joke.

I had this discussion on the Gaga YArd forums and people took it seriously.

So if you have nothing meaningful to contribute, please don't disturb the thread.

...I'll bet many of you haven't seen even one of her videos. Possibly not even heard her songs.

Not to be a prick, but perhaps its because this type of audience probably doesn't find much interest in lady gaga.  Use the search engine and you'll find a number of music threads around.  Very few of them are anything remotely close.

I had this discussion on the Gaga YArd forums and people took it seriously.

Perhaps you took a left instead of a right at Alberqurque. This isn't the Gaga Yard.  It's APS.

So if you have nothing meaningful to contribute, please don't disturb the thread.

That wouldn't be our style around here.

Thanks, but I'll pass.  I'd rather type in "double rainbow" and have a midget whip me with a chunk of rubber hose.

Well, that's changed now. I have different tastes.

Yes, and APS is primarily a site for discussing non-firearms topics with the gun crowd. Hence this thread.

That wouldn't be our style around here.

Mine neither...

Lady Gaga is nothing but pop culture trash. As in, not even good pop culture.

Her 'art' is shock value and weirdness. And its not even good or all that orginal.

You want good shock value with music? Alice Cooper.

We don't really go into musical criticism here, aside from "I like that" or "it sucks!" Just the way we generally operate.

Since music and satire were mentioned somewhere in the thread, I think this qualifies:

Well, I made it through 3/4 of the Edge of Glory video and checked out the lyrics for a couple other songs of hers mentioned here.

Her style of music sounds generic to me, it seemed I had heard that song before, mostly because it uses the same pop/dance formula all the others in that genre use.

The lyrics were the typical narcissistic emoting one also hears in that genre.

She's no Madonna, that's for sure.

Well, I don't think Gaga is pop culture trash, or that she only has 15 minutes of fame.

She has been constantly mentioned in the media.

She has many number one hits (Bad Romance, Poker Face, anyone?)

Her music is for the most part, very, very good ( if you are into this genre).

But most of all, her fans are truly fanatics.

I should know. :) There's a personal connection between the artist and the fan.

For example, fans refer to her as Mother Monster and to themselves as Little Monsters.

Also, they take great interest in her activities and her well-being.

There's even a university course on the subject. So, with so many hits, so much mention in the media, great critical reviews and dedicated fans, she clearly is not just basking in the sun.

She also sings live at all her events, unlike many artists nowadays. She is an extremely talented vocalist, no matter what you may say about her composing (which she does by herself).
