New Orleans new evacuation plan
« on: May 02, 2006, 12:36:34 PM »
quoted from MSN:

"NEW ORLEANS - Mayor Ray Nagin unveiled a new evacuation strategy for New Orleans on Tuesday that relies more on buses and trains and eliminates the Superdome and Convention Center as shelters.

There will be no shelter of last resort, Nagin declared."

End quote.

Guess what.

The Superdome never was a shelter of last resort.
Which is one reason why no supplies were waiting there for evacuees.

That didn't stop people from gathering there after Katrina.
And ... in spite of whatever plan you unfold, guess where people are going to gather again.

Does anyone else see Katrina II (whenever that happens) as another "people stranded at the Superdome" event in the making?

New Orleans did have a shelter of last resort.  It's called "Houston".

Wonder if they're gonna buy new buses to replace those that sat flooded (as seen from aerial views) instead of moving people out of harm's way? Not that Nagin isn't spending a lot of effort trying to sweep that little fiasco under the carpet these days...

I was thinking the same thing. Isn't the "new plan", the "old plan" that they didn't use for some stupid reason?

Nagin's running for re-election. He'll say anything to get votes at this point because a large portion of his supporters are still in Houston as Antibubba pointed out. The ones that came back and have started rebuilding have realized they bought a pig in a poke when they elected him the first time and aren't interested in any of his explanations.
