Or at least try to. It will be interesting to see how this turns out and what the reaction is. I'm thinking it may fizzle, but if they actually were to shut down or impede multiple ports, in most instances that's considered a national security threat. I'll be interested to see if they are coddled, or handled as a threat. Also, if they actually managed to impede commerce (doubtful), they're more likely going to inconvenience the "99%" who are wondering why the made in China Christmas present they ordered for little Jimmy hasn't arrived yet. It appears the unions are distancing themselves from this.

In Oakland, it looks like they were partially successful. About half the berths are temporarily shut down and 150 longshoremen were sent home for the day:

I heard a news story on the radio that said truckers who are paid by the load and who weren't able to unload were confronting the OWS jerks, and weren't exactly happy about losing money.

Wouldn't truckers be amongst the 99%?

They were mad about losing money while their trucks were idling, so they were probably owner/operators. The company drivers I know only make money off their miles, though. If they're sitting, they're not earning.

So the fools are trying to shut down the lifeline to Hawaii and Alaska? I guess that they're fortunately not as "99%" as they claim to be, otherwise people here would be stockpiling rice and toilet paper.

I propose a law that anyone willfully blocking a public roadway and does not possess a proper parade/march or event permit from the responsible municipality in question, they can be run over with full immunity from any criminal or civil penalty, as long as the driver is obeying all traffic laws in question.

I delivered a load across the road from Portland's Terminal 6. T-6 was closed, reportedly with the full cooperation of the unions and Port Police, by about 50 clowns with the same artwork as is pictured in the linked article. Due to the half dozen camera crews with microwave link vans, I refrained from expressing myself when many of the demonstrators attempted to engage me with hand signals.

No kidding on the M4... there were only 50 or so. Start from 200 yards out and change mags as needed.

Kidding. Wouldn't want the Portland parks and sidewalk crew need to clean the filth out of the gutters.
