Using Wii to surf net
« on: December 20, 2011, 11:56:49 AM »
Well...this is bizarre...to me anyway. Sitting at home today, looking at APS on 60 inch TV. First post I've made using a Wii controller. strange but kinda cool.

Does the Wii have an optional keyboard?  Seems like using the controller to type would be tedious.

The real limitation is the resolution. The Wii can only do 480p with the optional component video cable. That really limits text info and screws up page formatting.
I promise not to duck.

Are there any options to improve that...or is that the limit of the hardware?

Hardware limitation.  The Wii is basically just two Gamecubes mashed together.

A full HD 1080p Wii, possibly with Blu-Ray  is rumored for CES 2012, with backwards comparability at low-res for some games, or can just re-render them in a higher res, depending on how the graphics were programmed.

But it's still just rumors, I think.
I promise not to duck.

You don't need to spend the $ on that specific keyboard. Several years ago Nintendo updated the Wii so that it will work with an awful lot of off-the-shelf wireless keyboards.  You just plug the USB receiver into the USB port on the Wii and you're all set.  If you want to make sure you buy one that will work, a little googling will give you a list of models that are known to work.
