Bronze 1 oz challenge coins, what to do with them?
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:27:10 AM »
For several years, many years ago, some buddys and I made a new challenge coin for our unit each year.

The unit went to Illinois and there's zero interest in the 40 or so coins I have left.

I asked at my local precious metal's place (that made the coins) and they said bronze has no value.  I thought it was mostly copper?

Anyway, aside from making arrowheads (don't laugh, it's all I could think of, other than a Grecian dagger if I ever learned to smelt) are they good for anything?

Have I asked this question here before?  Feels like I have.

Make little "Xena Warrior Princess Chackrams" out of them, and sell them at ComicCon.
I promise not to duck.

Commission a bronze dagger.

This. Make 'em into something, give them to kids, sell them on eBay, etc.

They're a neat keepsake.  Have them matte-framed and keep them.

Hey guys, what he is saying is that they are leftovers from the last batch they had made.  It isn't like they are 40 different coins.

One is a nice keepsake, it sounds like he has 40 duplicates.

See if one of the guys from the unit is a sculptor.  Have him do something that would be meaningful to the unit, and do it in wax.  Have it cast using the bronze from the coins.  Figure out something thoughful to do with it... maybe donate it to a local veterans group or a military association.

Some years back when my company had its 100th anniversary, they commemorated the event by giving everyone . . . a rock. A piece of gravel.

What to do with them . . . ?

Many suggestions, some of them anatomically improbable . . . but one of the female scientists came up with the best idea of all - collect a lot of them and sculpt them into a fist with one finger raised. (Guess which finger.)

You might do the same with the leftover coins, and place the sculpture in front of a picture of BHO . . .  >:D

Take them to the local gun show and sell them as "genuine SEEL challenge coins" to all the SEEL's who lost theirs while on a black-op mission.....

....sorry, Rev....I meant dark-green-op mission.....

Had to look up challenge coins.  Very interesting.  Especially since the Challenge Coin Association issues its own challenge coins:

http://challengecoinassociation.org/

They might find a use for yours, I guess.

I think I got one from the NRA a while back for something, but I'll have to look for it.

I was thinking something similar in that you might be able to sell them at a gun show or to a surplus store or something as military paraphernalia.  Which they are...
